Disney keeps star despite nude pics

The Walt Disney Co. is sticking with the 18-year-old star of its wildly successful "High School Musical" franchise, despite her "lapse in judgment" in posing for racy photos that were leaked to the Internet.

Vanessa Hudgens apologized Friday for the photos, which show her smiling as she posed naked and in underwear in a bedroom with a red curtain behind her.
"Vanessa has apologized for what was obviously a lapse in judgment," said Disney Channel spokeswoman Patti McTeague. "We hope she's learned a valuable lesson."
She said negotiations were ongoing to land all the actors, including Hudgens, for a "High School Musical 3" feature film.
Hudgens' publicist, Jill Fritzo, wouldn't say anything about who took the pictures and how they slipped out onto the Internet.
The films' wholesome nature is a big part of the success formula for family-friendly Disney. Parents of the largely preteen fan base can relax knowing their children are watching, knowing it won't make for any uncomfortable questions.
Gabriella and onscreen beau Troy (played by Zac Efron) coo, they make googly eyes, they barely kiss. Gabriella would doubtlessly blush at the idea of a young actress posing for nude photos.

It isn't likely that it would be 8 (even though it's not impossible since now everyone has a camera) but getting into 13 and up is very likely.

This is so stupid. She should not have to apologize! Disney should not be in a position to judge what someone does in their personal life, especially something that really doesn't hurt anyone. Sure wasn't doing anything illegal or immoral.

Julie Andrews and Anne Hathaway got naked in a movie once. It's okay if you do it for entertainment but not in your personal life?

The same movie?! Is that the little seen Princess Diaries 3? Is it available on DVD?!

To be fair, Andrews stripped after she had obtained a long-established career and did it as an attempt to escape her Mary Poppins/Maria persona that she was so sick of.

I do think Disney are over-reacting. Look back to Jodie Foster who had a budding Disney movie career even after appearing as a child prositure in Taxi Driver. You would think that in today's world, Disney could overlook this minor pecadillo.

But the difference is this happened in Vanessa's personal life not in a movie (I say this while staying somewhat neutral). I can understand the hooplah and Disney's concerns due to her idol status but it's not like she killed someone either

It doesn't matter if she did it in her personal life or on the screen. There is nothing immoral about being naked. I don't understand the hooplah and it's just another example of America's insecurity about nudity.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not disputing her behaviour or anything, I'm just saying, I can understand why Disney will have got somewhat freaked out, justified or not. Additionally, it's at a person's discretion whether they are comfortable with nudity or not, you think there is nothing immoral about beking naked maybe some people do, the fact is while we'd like to speak for everyone we can never. My only objection is not over Vanessa's actions but the fact she has idol status with many young people and I don't think young children thinking it's alright to take naked photos of theirselves at that age is a very unconcerning one and it may well be the case

Here's the thing though:
-are youngsters doing more... questionable things than before? Yes.
-Did Vanessa cause this trend? No.

And parents need to talk to their kids about taking nakie pictures of themselves, talk about consequences. Talk about respecting their bodies.

I realise this and I'm not saying anything's right and wrong here I'm just saying that it may well be the case that such unfortunate things happen. I'm just saying I can understand the concern over negative impact regardless of whether they're overreacting or not which if they fire her I think they are. I think she should make a public apology, not because it's necessarily right, but for her benefit
