    Have you insured your collection?

I was talking to Tigerlily today about an auction that just closed for some Disneyland collectibles (posters) that sold for MUCH more than I expected.
Of course that set off the usual response... "Did you get your attraction posters insured yet?"
My reply was the standard, "No, I can't find anybody willing to write an appraisal", which seems to always be the problem. There are insurance companies that will write a policy based on a legitimate appraisal, usually from a dealer that specializes in Disneyana. Unfortunately, I haven't found a Disneyana dealer that will even return my emails, much less write an appraisal.
Has anybody here ever gotten an insurance policy on your Disney collectibles, and if so, how did you do it?

I've thought about it but I'm not sure how to go about it honestly. Between myself and my boyfriend we have way too much invested in my Donald Duck collection and his transformers!!

I just figured it would fall under homeowner's insurance - of course, my collection is nothing like Circarama's!

Will trade husband for Disneyland and DCA Pins!

Naturally, my first though was Phil Sears. If he isn't willing to take your money for an appraisal, perhaps I should take out a business license!

If you continue to be unable to find a suitable Disney memorabilia appraiser, let me know. I smell a business opportunity.

(Just slightly fascetious. Try Sotheby's or Christies.)

I would think it would be pretty hard to get them appraised because their value is entirely subjective and can fluctuate so much. It's never occurred to me to insure any of our Disney stuff. If something catastrophic happened to them, I'm figuring I'll have bigger problems to contend with, and in all likelihood, I'd just stop collecting.

Re: Have you insured your collection?

I have mine insured for 25K...tho' that's probably no where near enough to replace everything should something catastrophic happen. I just added a 'collectible' rider to my SAFECO homeowners policy. For underwriting I just needed to provide Safeco with an itemized list of each item, picture, and proof of purchase. In some cases what I purchased it for and what I insured it for differed, if I was able to locate some document i.e. a collector's value book that would substaniate an oft times higher insured amt. or even a screen print of past E-bay sales....if that helps at all.

Ooooh and don't make the mistake of assuming your collectibles are automatically covered under your Homeowner's umbrella. Might be, but usually has a $$ limit cap of some ridiculousl pitance $1000-$3000.

I'm in the process of insuring my Disney and Sailor Moon collections. My agent made me take individual pictures of everything I wanted to insure, which took several days. I don't really know the next step as I am meeting with my agent next week.

I would recommend Collectibles Insurance Agency. They are found on the web and do not require lots of documentation, only things over a certain dollar value. Look for them on the internet.
