I saw him quite a bit last month. While he is not as common as some, he is not as rare as say Yeti or Dale Earnhardt.

I found two at Disneyland last month. But I saw a family who were looking like they were starting their first batch of car shopping so I let them have at it.

Anybody know how many Yeti's were produced or how many Mattel is planning to produce? Our Toys R Us had a few Yeti's so I picked up another one - gonna pull one out of its packaging. Also picked up:
    • Mario Andretti
    • Fred

Just so you know, Mattel is a mass market toy company. Nothing is going to be rare, and if it is, it's not on purpose. Their goal is to sell as many toys as they possibly can and if that means making more of a popular car, they will do so.

But of course when new cars (like Yeti) come out, they're obviously not going to meet the demand of everyone right away. So their goal is to keep releasing it (even releasing it next year if they have to) until all demand has been met.

New Cars appear rare because scalpers go to the stores daily, buy them all up, and resell them on ebay. Eventually, enough are on the shelves for everyone.

If you think about it, CARS came out when? 2006? We're in 2008 now and there's STILL Lightning McQueen and Sally on the pegs, two cars that were released right at the summer of the movie's release.

The reason why Yeti was so hard to find is because of a few factors.

    a) It was released towards the end of the year
    b) It was released on packaging that was nearing the end of its completion ("supercharged").

What that means is that Mattel has a new packaging to roll out for 2008 ("world of cars") and most retail stores will opt for the NEWER product than to order a case of the old... even if the case still has many cars that consumers want.

But not to worry, Yeti is sold on the new "world of cars" packaging and from the looks of it, you were able to get all you wanted.

The hard part is to get Yeti on a supercharged card now since most stores didn't order that case assortment.

That's the Yeti I got, both of them on the Supercharged card. I haven't seen the "World of Cars" card yet, but as I mentioned in an earlier thread, the shelf at the local Wal-Mart was empty and may be soon stocked with the new "World of Cars" carded cars.

Are Mike and Sulley exclusives to a store, i.e. Wal-Mart or Toys R Us? I've been looking for Mike and Sulley all over but haven't seen them anywhere.

I don't believe so. I see them everywhere down here.

No, I've seen Mike and Sully a few places, such as Target, Disneyland, Toys R Us, etc. Might just be because they are between series right now, might be a while before they rerelease them.

I got the Buzz and Woody set today, but I'm surprised at how poorly Buzz is constructed. It's the removable helmet that should snap into place but doesn't. If I was a parent giving this to one of my kids I would be a little concerned about it. They should have made the helmet fixed in place or put it on a little hinge on the back.

    Re: Mattel's Cars - discussion

Mattel does a lot of things wrong. There are so many errors splattered across the entire line of Cars it gets tough to count!

KB had a big sale and all of their cars were $3 right now which is essentially the same price as Target and Wal-Mart. mellonballer found me most of what I needed so I picked up a few for my friend's son who is also collecting these toys. I found Fred, Darrell Cartrip, and Pit Stop Guido for the little tyke.

Keep your eye on your Fred... some of them were released without the license plate that says "FRED". This is an error and has since been corrected but tons of cars were already sent out. The one I found today is one of those errors.

Anyone seen the Flik and PT Flea set? It's the only one I am interested in with the new wave and have seen it start appearing on Ebay. Should I start hitting my Targets, Toys R Uses and Walmarts, or not quite yet?

I don't think they have been released in the states yet. They were released in Europe first for some reason. I'm sure it will be soon though. I'll let you know the minute I see it.

I look at so many of these things I can't always remember. I swear I saw one last month when all the stores were getting in tons, but I might be nuts.

Don't know if this is at all the Wal-Marts, but the local one has the Cars Racing Track Carrying Case marked down from $15 to $10. This is the one they reduced: http://www.toywiz.com/carscase.html
