    I was a Caribbean Amphibian

Disney Magic for Spring Break March 2010

Travel party—Myself, DH, DS 22 and DS 17

We left home and flew to Tampa (the flights were much more reasonable than flying into Orlando at that time) from Houston on Friday night. We stayed overnight at the Grand Hyatt near the airport. I got up bright and early Saturday morning to get our car from Avis (I just took the free shuttle back to the airport), rented the car, picked up the family and we were on our way. It is only about a two hour trip from Tampa to the port.

So close and yet so far. . .

We turned in the car at the Avis in Cape Canaveral, where we waited with other Avis customers to get the free shuttle to the Port. Once we were in the van it was only about a 10 minute ride to the ship. Since you can see the ships from far away it did not even seem like ten minutes. .

    There she is!

We dropped our bags with the baggage handler at the curb. There was a person a few steps away at a podium waiting to see our passports and make sure we were on the list. YEAH we were!!

We got checked off and proceeded to go through security, then went up an elevator to check in. You are given a boarding group number, and when your number is called (it was literally minutes for us) you can board. The boarding that day started about 11:45, but the norm is about 12. You go through the walkway, get your picture taken, and are announced “Welcome to the Silver 7 family”! We went directly to book our Palo reservations (love the food there) and then proceeded to go upstairs to the buffet. It is our tradition to start our cruise eating in Topsiders and looking at the port towards the Shuttle launching area.

    Security and check in:

    Lunch from Topsiders:

Me waiting on deck 4 for our room to be ready

Our stateroom was ready about 1:30, and once we were through eating we went to check it out. We had a Category 8 stateroom, which is a deluxe oceanview stateroom.

There is a personal navigator (kind of a daily newspaper) in the room detailing the events on the ship each day.

    DH reading the personal navigator

While we waited for our luggage to arrive we explored the ship –DS 17 went directly to the Stack, where he spent 90% of the next 7 days.
DS22 waiting for the lifeboat drill

Afterthe mandatory lifeboat drill it was up to the top deck for the sailaway party. Unfortunately there were some “challenges” with my camera so you will have to take my word it was so fun!
    Sailing away (sorry it's blurry)

I always like to be on deck 10 when we leave the port as the cast members wave goodbye from the terminal, then so do people in restaurants along the shore!

After we got back to the room our luggage was there, so it was unpack time then off to the show. “All Aboard, the Magic Begins”, which is an overview of the entertainment for the week and they introduce the officers.
We had late dinner so we ate at 8:15pm. We met our EXCELLENT wait staff, Romeo and HB. They took great care of us all week!

We got back to the room and DS22 went to the college meet in Diversions.

    Day 2—A day at sea

Ahh, a day at sea to start out our vacation!!

The night before we had received a note on our door inviting us to a DVC member presentation.

    Our door

We got up and went to the 9:30am presentation where yours truly won a travel blanket. EXCELLENT!

We then got the boys up and went to lunch at Topsiders. After our food settled a bit we went to work out (gotta get rid of all those desserts!!).

Walking into the Spa (the workout room was in the back):

It looks so calm and inviting

    Here we go

    View from the excercise bike

After working out we went to eat at Palo,

but DH was not feeling well so DS22 and I ate there, where we met our wonderful server Andrea

After Palo DH was feeling a little better so we all saw that night's broadway style show, "Twice Charmed"--it is really good!

We came back to the room to find a towel animal

When we got back I was sleepy but DH saw ‘When in Rome’ in the Buena Vista Theatre which he said was a really good movie.

I *love* the little teeny desserts at Palo! I can have a bite of several and not eat a ton!

    Ohhhhhhhh more please!!
    Good morning, son
    In twenty years from now
Maybe we'll both sit down and have a few beers
And I can tell you 'bout today
And how I picked you up and everything changed
    It was pain
    Sunny days and rain
I knew you'd feel the same things...

Re: I was a Caribbean Amphibian

After brunch DS22 saw a Christmas Carol in 3D in the Buena Vista Theatre--DH and I walked off our brunch and shopped.

We then headed to the Buena Vista Theatre to see the Princess and the Frog

After the movie was over I wanted to try something I had never done before-Pilates—

We met up at the gym, but there were too many people that wanted to do the class, so we went to a hidden mini deck (Secret Deck 7). We took our mats and started. It was a workout and I was sore the next day in spots I did not even realize we were working (between the shoulderblades?)

This was our view-not too shabby

Tonight’s dinner was in Animators Palate and it was show night.

Some of the effects were being repaired so we did not get the whole show. DS17 did not get a dessert this night, just as he did not get dessert the other 3 nights, so Romeo brought him this

We came back to the room ready for a fun day tomorrow--St. Maartens!

Re: I was a Caribbean Amphibian

    Day 4-St. Maarten, or Not!
Today is the day I have been looking forward to. DH likes to watch the America’s Cup Races, so the excursion at St. Maarten was a Regatta on an America’s Cup boat. It was literally a sailboat race. We were so excited, and what made it even better is that our excursion was one of the last ones to go at 9:45. We slept in, had room service bring breakfast, and were off. We gathered in the Promenade Lounge and were told because there was not enough wind our excursion was cancelled. DARN! We went over to port adventures to see what else was left and there were only 2 adventures open at 1pm. We were not interested in those so we left the ship and just walked around the port area and shopped

    Welcome to St. Maarten!

    The Menfolk

    Information please!

    OOh a pirate?

    No its Pieter Stuyvesant!

    From Wikipedia:
In April 1644, he attacked the Spanish-held island of St. Maarten and was wounded, the lower part of his right leg was struck by a cannon ball. He returned to the Netherlands, where his right leg was amputated and replaced with a wooden peg. Supposedly, Stuyvesant was given the nickname "Old Silver Leg" because he used a stick of wood driven full of silver bands as prosthetic limb.

    Back to the Magic

The ship beside us was German, and the ship behind that was from England. This was her last port before starting her transatlantic journey.
