Maiden Voyage of the Disney Dream!

It is time to head off to Castaway Cay!

It was January so the water was too cold for this southern girl to stay in for long

First a shot of when we docked:

I got off the ship, looked up and saw that the Aquaduck really does extend over the edge of the ship

Where to go first?

I stopped first to take a peek at the private cabanas

Oops I guess this means me

My friends were already at the family beach so I joined them

What a view!

It was time to get back to the ship and do what I had been putting off the whole trip (chicken to the core)

IT WAS FUN! If I can do it anyone can do it!

Time to go get dry, start packing go to the show and dinner.

Tonight’s show is Believe, and it is great!

Dinner is at Enchanted Garden, a lovely restaurant that changes from day to night

We headed out before dessert as we had to get our luggage in the hallway before 10:30 (we had 8:30 dining)

On our way back to the room we saw the farewell show. Such a sweet goodbye.

There are so many more things to do on a Disney Cruise that I did not take pictures of, like the Mickey Pool, the kids splash zone (wish there was one for adults!), the Walt Disney Theatre, the Buena Vista Theatre (first run movies), the Cove Café, the shops, the spa, the gym, the art gallery, the Mickey Detective game with the animated art . . .

I could go on and on. . . OR

You could come and see it for yourself!!

I've never been on a cruise, but when I do go on one, you have definitely convinced me it must be a Disney one!

FGT : I have sailed twice on the Wonder. I looked forward to sailing on the Dream. We sailed April 17-21st . And this is what I took away for the sailing.

When it came to Dinner. There was nothing that was exactly wrong but it was not Disney right. Anybody who was spent time at the parks or on the Wonder or Magic will understand the above comment. I thought that it took to long for refills and the bread basket was empty. I think that Disney has not worked thru the learning curve from going from a 2,000 passenger ship to a 4,100 passenger ship. I think the dinning room especially Animators Pallet needed an additional 15-20 people to help close the gap. I know Disney hold themselves to a higher standard but that standard was not met in the dinning room.

I spoke to the head maitred and I asked if the ratio of staff to persons per table was normal for the cruise industry. He replied Yes, but the kitchen is so far away it can take 8-10 minutes to go round trip for refills. He agreed that they are working on the problem. I think that Disney will have the problems worked out with in another 3 months. We did not book for the first sailing because we expected some small problems.

The AquaDuck line took app. 35-45 minutes way to long for such a short ride. It was also disappointing that one of the seal was leaking water so they had to stop running the slide. We spent the day at Castaway Cay then set sail for the fireworks show. Yes, you read that correctly. The Dream has a fireworks show at sea. We returned to Castaway Cay for a second day while repairs where being made to the AquaDuck. Great time all the way around.

If anybody reading this was on the fence please do not let my comments sway you in any way. We have talked about booking the fantasy in 2012. A cruise is one of the greatest vacations that you can ever take. You will not be able to do everything on board with 4 sailing's.
