Castaway Cay Snorkeling

Hi Everybody,
Me and the hubby will be on the May Repo cruise and we love to snorkel. (no kids with us, so we will hopefully be at serenity bay). Anyhow, we would like to know if it's necessary to sign up for a snorkeling excursion, or can we just walk in the water and go snorkeling?

Thanks for the advice and tips!

Hi,

You can just go snorkling, you don't have to be on a exursion.

Welcome to MiceChat!

We went on a Disney cruise in October. My husband and eleven year old son went snorkeling in the afternoon. They just walked up and got the gear. There are all sorts of neat things to see underwater, like a Mickey statue and an old 20,000 leagues submarine. Ask if they have a map for that kind of thing.

Have fun and let us know how your trip went!

If you bring your own gear you can just walk right in. You can also rent gear (including float vests) If you want, you can "schedule" it as an excursion and pre-pay for the gear. You get to keep the gear all day (they give you a mesh bag to carry it all in)

Morning are better. There can be a lot of people out there later in the day, and in the shallower areas a lot of sand gets kicked up.

I have some pictures / video I shot while I was snorkling there. I'll try and post some later (they are on my home PC )

Your quite welcome

It's a Sony Cybershot DSC-W30 in a Sony marine hard case, which allows for shots up to 10' underwater - and also works well on Castaway Cay to keep sand, salt, and other general nastyness out of the camera. Keep it in the case all day, when you get back to the ship, rinse it well in the sink, dry it off, and your camera is just fine. (it also floats, so if you drop in the drink, you dont loose it )
