Disney Cruise Line to continue sailing from Port Canaveral

This news just came in. Disney will be staying in Port Canaveral for at least the next 15 years.

Quote:
After more than a year of negotiations, Disney Cruise Line and Port Canaveral struck a deal Wednesday that will keep Disney ships sailing out of Brevard County for the next 15 years.

Under the agreement, Disney will station the two new cruise ships it is having built in Germany at Port Canaveral for at least three years after they begin sailing in 2011 and 2012. Each of the ships will carry 4,000 passengers, or 1,300 more than the existing Disney Magic and Disney Wonder liners.

Kind of kills all the speculation that Disney was bringing a new ship to the West Coast.

I wouldn't count out the possibility of taking one of the new ships to the west coast. Anything is possible in the world of travel.

I'd be happy with one of the old ships out here!

Yeah, I thought one on the West Coast and one in Europe.

Ok, if you look further into the deal, all it states is that the new ships will be based out of Port Canaveral untill at least 2014, which would only be 2-3 years for each ship once they are delivered. The deal says that they only need to keep 2 ships there which frees up a ship to come out to the west coast or else where. I wouldn't expect to see a new ship out here until the date they are keeping them there due to the fact they are too large for the Panama Canal and the date seems to match up on when the new larger expansion of the Panama Canal would be completed. Otherwise, a new ship on the west coast would have to go the LONG way around.
