I'm gonna cop to being a music score snob and admit that I avoid Silva Screen compilation CDs like this Tim Burton one. I buy plenty of original soundtracks as it is, including both volumes of Music for a Darkened Theatre which contain Danny Elfman's original scores, alternates and unreleased tracks. My ears usually get distracted if it hears a sound cue played differently, so the Silva Screen re-recordings don't work for me. For my tastes, if I really wanted to make a collection of theme music, I'm usually better off creating one of my own using the original tracks rather than non-originals.
Another sweet soundtrack I'd recommend here is the soundtrack to Matthew Bourne's version of "Edward Scissorhands". I saw the show in LA last year and just got blown away by it, so that helped seal the deal buying the music.
