Re: How long do you give a book until you stop reading?

I give the book around 200 pages until I close it for good.

I gave Breaking Dawn (fourth in Twilight series) a chance, but after 150 or so pages I couldn't take it any longer. The grammatical errors and poor storylines can only get a book so far.

Re: How long do you give a book until you stop reading?

I can tell after the first 3 chapters if i'm going to like it or not.
If it doesn't keep my attention I just pick a new book.

Not a set rule, but if it doesn't grab me after a couple of chapters, then I put it aside and maybe will pick up again....I can't stand the really descriptive stuff like LOTR and Shogun comes to mind... couldn't get into those--even Harry Potter.... liked the movies though

I'll give it half way through a book. Most recent book was Julie Andrews' biography. Couldn't finish.

Re: How long do you give a book until you stop reading?

Most of the time, i am pretty good at reading books that interest me enough to get me through the book. The only time that really stands out is "Twilight". I read about 25 pages and it just irritated me so much, but i forced myself to at least get to the halfway mark. As soon as I did, i closed it and put it in the Used books box we have!

It depends. Usually I give it a good try, but some books I *just* can't get through. I've been reading nonfiction lately, which is a bit better. I rarely find one of those that I hate.

Re: How long do you give a book until you stop reading?

I used to have a very strict no quitting policy on books. then I found myself slogging through a book to the lame end and realized, "I read for pleasure, why am I doing this?" Now, if it doesn't show promise after 3 chapters, give or take, I give up and find something else to read.

Yeah, I hated the feeling of slogging through a book I'm not enjoying. I like to finish everything I start, but some just aren't worth it.

I usually give it about 3-4 chapters or about 50 pages.

Re: How long do you give a book until you stop reading?

depends on the book. I will try to finish it...even if I hate every minute. Like with Catcher in the Rye and Grapes of Wrath. UGH. Total waste of time. But, if I can't understand it, it gets tossed aside. Wurthering Heights made it to page two before it was gone. I can understand the Bible, I can understand Shakespeare...but, I couldn't understand a bloomin word of that book.

Some Austen books are harder to get through than others but they always have that unexpected thing that happens in them that makes the book worth wild.

Re: How long do you give a book until you stop reading?

usually the last page.... no! seriously!. I have, however, been known to go a few weeks, maybe months between readings, but I generally read the book from front cover to back cover. I figure, if I just read a few chapters and then stop, its like throwing money away.
if I dont read the whole book, I might as well as not bought the book and just take my money out of my pocket and count out (of my money) the cost of the book and burn the money.

    in other words
how long..............etc yadda yadda untill I stop reading the book? when I reach the last page.
