Okay, I'm not there yet. I will be though. So are we having discussions as we go or are we discussing at the end?

Side Note: I'm reading Lost in Austen, which is awesome. It's like one of those choose your own adventures but you are in Austen novels and keep changing characters. Then you have to keep points tallys as well as your failings. It's hilarious, but full of spoilers if you're not familiar with her work.

Want to discuss as we go along? I'm a little behind too but... I'm taking chemistry, it's eating my life.

It's funny because once I get into the language and the beats, the book moves fast; but if I put down the book even for a few hours it takes me a few extra minutes to get back into it.

    Weird.

Want to discuss as we go along?
Yes let's. Why does Charlotte Lucas just have the most amazing insight into things? And why doesn't Lizzie believe her?

Re: J.A.B.C. -- Pride and Prejudice

I think Lizzy is too idealistic to subscribe to Charlotte's overly practical point of view. Also, consider that Lizzy has been favored by her quick-witted father; she believes in herself and holds herself in good esteem because she's been encouraged in that direction. We don't know the character of Charlotte as well, of course, but likely she's been brought up to just be glad for a secure future. Practicality before romance.

^ very good point. I was actually thinking of at the ball when Charlotte tells Lizzie that unless Jane shows Bingley favor she'll lose him. I didn't see how she was right until like the third time I read it.

Is anyone still reading? I'm on Volume 2, chapter 2.

I see what you mean, but I don't know if I agree that Charlotte was right. If Jane had been more aggressive or forward with Bingley, she would have been acting out of character. I think he would have felt uncomfortable with that and might not have found her as enchanting as he did. Instead of "securing him" as Charlotte suggested, she might have run him off entirely -- no interference from his sisters or anyone else necessary.

Bah. Reading for pleasure is so much more fun. Of course, you're improving your mind and that's much more important.

Who is Mr. Darcy to distract you from your efforts?

I'm done. And I'm still reading Lost in Austen (it's involved) so I keep rereading parts.
