Retro "American Top 40 with Casey Kasem"

One of my favorite things about my Sirius/XM satellite service is...complete rebroadcasts of the old Casey Kasem American Top 40 shows.

On the 70's channel, there is a show from the roughly corresponding same date for one of the years in the decade. This weekend, and right now for that matter, it's the Top 40 for the week ending May 15, 1971!

Songs from Jesus Christ Superstar...Helen Reddy's "I Don't Know How To Love Him" and Murray Head's "Superstar" are back to back at 25 and 24, moving up!

The 80's channel has the same thing, for years in that decade>

    How cool!

I used to listen to that show just about every Sunday. In May 1971, I was finishing up my freshman year - at Pacifica High School (Garden Grove).

    The memories. How cool.

and number 1...for the fifth week in a row..."Joy To The World" by Three Dog Night!

Re: Retro "American Top 40 with Casey Kasem"

Back at it again tonight..this time it's May 20, 1972....

At number 38, a song from the movie expected to eclipse "The Sound Of Music" as the biggest money-making movie ever...

Andy Williams "Love Theme From the Godfather" ...

At number 30, "Suavecito" by Malo.

And at 27...a song that's hard to conceive as "top 40" material...a great tune nevertheless..

    "Taxi" by Harry Chapin

She was gonna be an actress...and I was gonna learn to fly....

I listen to those on Sirius too. Very cool following along trying to remember some of the songs.

Here is one that I hoped to forget.

"I Gotcha" by Joe Tex - at number 4.

There are very few songs in my lifetime that I could honestly say I hate.

    That's one of them.

Can't believe that Casey said it was actually as high as number 2.

    Number 2 on May 20, 1972 - "Oh Girl By The Chi-Lites"

and (drum roll) number one...for the sixth straight week..."The First Time (Ever I Saw Your Face)" by Roberta Flack.

Keep your feet on the ground, and keep reachin for those stars...
