I'm holding off on buying it until the Illustrated Edition comes out like for the first two Robert Langdon books. Does anyone happen to know when they are planning to release an illustrated edition?
The Illustrated Editions made the first two Langdon adventures feel much more real with photos from the actual locations.

am I the only person who thinks Dan Brown is only a so-so writer? It tried to read some of his none Langdon books and they were awful.

I pre-ordered and had it downloaded on the kindle as soon as it came out. :) It's a good read so far.

I read mostly non-fiction...so as far as fiction books go I think they are pretty good, but I've only read the Langdon ones.

No... you're not... I couldn't stand DaVinci because he foreshadowed so much. Angels and Demons was better but he still foreshadowed too much for my taste.

Husband finished reading it days ago. Said it's good, a couple of good plot twists.

I'm 90 pages in and so far it's very meh. When I'm enjoying a book, I tend to finish it in a couple of days. This one I'm putting down pretty often.

That's the way I read... Angels was done in a weekend... same as DaVinci. Angels I read because I was interested. DaVinci I read just to see if my foreshadowed conclusion was right (which it generally was). In DaVinci it was "cat and mouse" where he would foreshadow and I would guess the conclusion then read the next 5 chapters to verify I was right. In Angels I was honestly interested overall. My main annoyance was that it opened with references to everyone (think of the first church designed by Raphael, sculpted by Bernini, written by Milton in Galileo's book) and quickly devolved into a hunt for Bernini sculptures. That... was a letdown.
I am on the fence on this one because Dan's other two Langdon books in my eyes were bad and average respectively. I'm not about to go "backwards" as I thought DaVinci was the bottom of the barrel and would prefer not to read worse. I'd be interested in any opinions of those who read #3 that are posted by individuals who didn't like the first two as that would match my tastes.

I just finished The Lost Symbol. And I give it a 3 out of 5..... I did read the other Langdon novels, and enjoyed them. He does pace his stories well, makes his main character appealing and likable, but the intrigue and suspense does tend to be heavy handed at times. I feel he does have a knack for making the more literary and technical aspects easy to access. Although in this book, I felt there was waaaaay to much over-sharing on some details of the history of the Freemasons.
I like his books for being easy to read, having a moderate amount of intrigue and a character that is likable.

I figured out one of the plot twists very early on.
It was an ok read, but not that gripping. Then the finding what they were looking for was a roll eyes obvious thing.....I would probably give it a 3 out of 5 as well.
