It was nice. I don't have any connection to the original as, at the time of its release, my parents hadn't even met yet.
I would have warmed up to it a whole lot quicker if it hadn't opened with Justin Bieber... I'm not usually one to be a "h8er" but that Justin Bieber rubs me the wrong way. I got a music video of his because it was free on iTunes but now I feel like I was ripped off.
(I've never visited Disneyland Resort, Tokyo Disney Resort, Disneyland Resort Paris, nor Hong Kong Disneyland Resort, so don't be fooled when I pretend to know what I'm talking about. [But I'm pretty good with the information, if I do say so myself. And you can hit me all you want with Walt Disney World.])
God knows why Justin Bieber, Miley, and the Jonas brothers are in there..... None of them can sing, especially Justin. But atleast we had good singers in there like Celine, Pink, Fergie, and a few others
I WOULd buy it if it was without Justin miley and Jonas
Good morning, son
In twenty years from now
Maybe we'll both sit down and have a few beers
And I can tell you 'bout today
And how I picked you up and everything changed
It was pain
Sunny days and rain
I knew you'd feel the same things...
It SUCKED ... I didn't even recognize half of the people in there.
And the song is a bout HELPING HAITI ... yet they managed to throw in yet ANOTHER Michael Jackson tribute in there. IT'S NOT ABOUT HIM!!!! Also, was Janet too good to show up? It was OBVIOUS she wasn't there.
I would donate $2 just to not have to hear that song again.
As for the actors, there were actors at the original one, so I'm okay with that. But I recognized EVERYBODY at the original one.
I recognized a great deal of the people there, but I didn't like seeing the little kid in the beginning of it (who the heck is he?!) and I wanted to hear Vince sing (glutton for punishment maybe.). I was also bugged by Michael Jackson being in it. He's dead, move on. And the grammar/rhyme scheme bugged me.
We Are the World is more associated with Michael Jackson than with any of the other artists. They sang it at his memorial less than a year ago. It made absaloute sense to put him in there. I am surprised that no one else from thge original was in the remake. Even Lionel didn't do any singing he just stood there being Celine Dion's 3rd base coach.
As for not recognizing the artists, I din't recognize a lot of theme either...but I'm older than I was in 1985 and I listen to much less popular music. If I wasn't on these boards I don't think I would know what Miley Cirus looks like. Plus, music these days has far fewer crossover icons. It seems music today is very niche marketed and artists are big in their niche and not beyond it. So it's harder to round up a group of juggernauts like they did in 85.
Thant being said, I'm not crazy about the song but it has it's moments...Pink, Celine, Josh Groban, and I even thought Miley handled herself quite well...too bad I know all her haters will still give her crap about it.
When they ran the long version tonight, it finally hit me what bugs me so much about it. The singers are acting like it's some sort of competition. The oversinging and emoting is just crazy. That first kid (a Jonas?) has an irritating style, really whiny. And nearly all of the lead singers felt compelled to over-do to a annoying degree. I never saw any such overwrought emoting in the original video. It really bothers me.
