(I've never visited Disneyland Resort, Tokyo Disney Resort, Disneyland Resort Paris, nor Hong Kong Disneyland Resort, so don't be fooled when I pretend to know what I'm talking about. [But I'm pretty good with the information, if I do say so myself. And you can hit me all you want with Walt Disney World.])
(Note that the production of The Wizard of Oz that is mentioned is currently going through a televised talent search for its Dorothy with ALW as the head judge, This is the same format as previous searches to find Maria (Sound of Music), Joseph and Nancy (Oliver!). The difference here is that ALW has announced that he will write some new songs to play alongside those from the MGM movie. Tim Rice has been approached to provide the lyrics)
Sister Act set to Close at the Palladium
Musical Makes Way for Wizard of Oz and Searches for New Home
With the recent unveiling of the London Palladium and a March 2011 start date for the Andrew Lloyd Webber production of The Wizard of Oz, it was only a matter of time before an announcement was made regarding the Palladium’s current draw “Sister Act”.
The show has been running at the London theatre since 2009, with Whoopie Goldberg helping to promote the launch of the production in the UK by appearing on various television programmes. Its current booking period then sees it run to Saturday 30th October 2010 (earlier than the Jan 2011 end date originally planned), though it was uncertain if it would extend this before “The Wizard of Oz” was announced.
So it is now confirmed to leave the London Palladium behind, It has been revealed that both Whoopi Goldberg and Stage Entertainment are striving to keep the production amongst West End shows by finding a new venue. It means that those who will be unable to witness “Sister Act” before its closure in January will still have plenty of opportunity in the future. In fact, whilst the hunt for a new West End home commences, it has also been revealed that a UK touring version will hit the road, whilst new German and Broadway productions have also been announced.
Sister Act is, of course, based on the hit 1992 movie of the same name, which saw Whoopi Goldberg play a lounge singer placed inside a convent on the witness protection programme. It has been a favourite for film fans for some time and also spawned a 1993 sequel entitled “Sister Act 2: Back in Action”.
I did! Kristin was amazing, yes! And Sean was pretty good too. And the girl who won the Tony SOOO deserved it. She was great!
Good morning, son
In twenty years from now
Maybe we'll both sit down and have a few beers
And I can tell you 'bout today
And how I picked you up and everything changed
It was pain
Sunny days and rain
I knew you'd feel the same things...
I saw Phantom of the Opera 2 years ago here in San Diego. They never come to San Diego, so it was really awesome they did and that I got to go! I saw the show when I was ten, so I vaguely remembered it. And since the 2004 movie is one of my favorites, I was excited to see it as an adult.
