News on Madonna's 12th album:

Says NO to GAGA & Red One

A November release has been rumored for several weeks now and the rumors are getting stronger!
Musical inspirations for the album include Beth Ditto and Jessica 6.

Diagram of the Heart may be involved and a demo called Way Back Home may have been recorded during the last recording session.

Joe Henry (M’s brother-in-law – who she previously worked with on Don’t Tell Me) is involved in two collaborations so far.

Four songs have been recorded so far. One of them is a demo track from the American Life/Confessions On A Dance Floor sessions.

During pre-production A Madonna/ Lady Gaga collaboration or Madonna singing a song written by Gaga was considered but Madonna ruled it out.

They are planning strong promotion for the album on social networking sites and with brands like Apple (possibly something to do with the iPhone 5 launch)

28 years later ago today (July 27th, 1983), the world was officially introduced to Madonna.

After the successful release of her first two singles Everybody and Burning Up, Warner Records gave Madonna the permission to produce her first self-entitled album, Madonna.

Reggie Lucas was hired to produce the album, and Madonna started recording Lucky Star, a song written by Madonna, and Borderline, which was a composition of Lucas. As soon as they were both individually released, they started not cooperating of how the album will go. Lucas produced the album his way, while Madonna complained that she had different concepts and ideas. Madonna took the finished but unsatisfactory album to her friend John -Jellybean- Benitez, who remixed and rearranged the whole album.

Jellybean also added a song written by Curtis Hudson and Lisa Stevens, Holiday. This song would establish Madonna as the new dance act of the early 80s. Of course later it would grow into one of Madonna's best classics. Though the album at first got the name 'Lucky Star', it was released on July 27th, 1983 simply as 'Madonna'. Madonna dedicated the album to her father.

On the album charts, it reached #6 (UK), #8 (US, France), and #10 (Australia). The album spent a total of 168 weeks on the Billboard 200. In October 2000, it was certified 5 times Platinum in the US, while selling over 8 million copies worldwide.

In September 1985, the album was re-issued under the name 'The First Album', using different art work...


In 2001 the album was remastered with improved sound and remixes of Burning Up and Lucky Star, and also using the original art work.
