Hey everyone!
As some of you may know Disney did a The Little Mermaid musical for Broadway in 2007 (replacing Beauty and the Beast which has been running since 1994 and after it closed it went on tour) Now The Little Mermaid didn't took of like Disney hoped it would. Even tough the show had a good cast and Alan Menken on board for the music it didn't feel right. They changed the ending of the story by dropping the Vanessa story and replaced it with a singing contest looking for Ariel's voice. The costumes where detailed but also felt off (it's hard to make mermaids come to life on stage) Also the character Ursula changed from pure evil to annoyed diva (while Sherie Rene Scott acted and sang nicely it still wasn't Ursula to many of us) Sebastian's voice got pitched up (which I really didn't like) and many more changes where made.

BUT here is the twist!
Stage Entertainment (who do major musicals in Europe like all Disney shows, Phantom, Sister Act ect) bought the rights for The Little Mermaid and wanted to do the musical and start from scratch. They kept the basic songs Menken had written for the show but also added 2 new (now it not released what they are but Ursula is rumored to get one of them) The costumes and sets will be ALL NEW! (I'm really looking forward to that) Also the story is getting tweaked making it more adult. (I heard rumors of Flounder getting more back story) Not a word yet if Vanessa is back in the show (though I really hope they do) Today was a press presentation for the show in Holland (which is where the reborn version will premiere) For the sets they released some facts like that the mermaids will 'Fly' instead of "Gliding across the stage' (which they did on Broadway) They also said that the 'World Above' sets will look like a story pop-up-book (A lyric in Beyond My Wildest Dream' says "Oh just Look! It's like I'm in a storybook!" and is about Ariel looking at the human world as if it is one big Fantasy/Fairytale)

I'm really looking forward to this because I've seen what stage can do with a show! (They revamped Tarzan and it was AMAZING)
If the show is a success (I hope) it will go around Europe because Stage Entertainment has the rights.
