The Sports Arena is more likely to get torn down before it gets a multi-million dollar rennovation like the Oracle did!

The hole is already there. They could do a Harmon-to-Haas arena change (UC Berkeley).

USC just has built its own basketball arena so there's not much motivation for that with Staples and the Pond too.

I believe the Colisseum Commission owns the site which is a partnership of state and local politicos, and you can see how effective they've been since the Raiders and Rams left in addressing the more pressing matter - the Colisseum itself, and getting an NFL team back there.

Eventually the SA will be yanked for the new football complex i predict for the NFL but it'll be about 40 more years at this rate.

i'm just glad i'm set for Oakland.

They should give up trying to get an NFL team. SoCal has not crumbled onto itself since the two teams left in 1994.

Let's see if I can tally this all up:
    1. Stanley Cup? Check.
    2. World Series? Check.
    3. NBA championships? Check-Check-Check.
    4. College football national Championships? Check and a half.
    5. College Baskeball National Championship? Check.

Yeah, we're not suffering sports-wise, though our children might if the city gets desperate enough to pay through the nose and the school budget.

Re: Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band 'Magic'

Springsteen gives fans preview of tour

    By JEFFREY GOLD
    Associated Press Writer
    2 hours, 51 minutes ago

ASBURY PARK, N.J. - Bruce Springsteen was back in familiar territory with a rehearsal show Monday night in the city that has become known worldwide through his songs.

The show at the oceanfront Convention Hall was the first of two benefit rehearsals for Springsteen and the E Street Band, who are about to embark on their first tour together in four years. They will also play Tuesday night, and a third rehearsal concert has been added for Friday at Continenta; Airlines Arena in East Rutherford.

Springsteen and the band opened up with "Radio Nowhere," a song from their new album.

"We're going to run through some things, some new things, some old things. There may be some mistakes — but I doubt it," Springsteen told the crowd.

Asbury Park and the boardwalk where the Convention Hall is located have been featured prominently in the New Jersey native's work. His first album was titled "Greetings From Asbury Park, N.J.," and the boardwalk Casino was the scene of the title track video for his 1987 "Tunnel of Love" album. Blocks away is the Stone Pony nightclub where Springsteen has performed numerous times.

Fans young and old gathered for hours before the show in warm sunshine on the boardwalk outside the hall.

"I think it's rare that you get any musician who appeals to so many generations," said Dara Webster, 34, of Westport, Conn. She was there with her 63-year-old mother, Maida Webster.

The elder Webster, a retired social worker from New Canaan, Conn., was attending her 20th Springsteen show. "I think he speaks from the heart," Maida Webster said. "He's down to earth."

Those without tickets, which cost $100, hoped to be included in the group of 100 people traditionally given last-minute admission. Standing among 300 hopefuls, Kevin Statesir, 52, a nightclub owner from Burlington, Vt., said he wasn't optimistic.

The hall isn't far from the clubs — many now closed — where Springsteen and the E Street Band rose to fame in the 1970s. Springsteen has used Convention Hall for other pre-tour rehearsals.

A native of nearby Freehold, the 58-year-old rocker still lives in Monmouth County.

Springsteen and the band are to begin a tour in support of their new album, "Magic," which is due out Oct. 2. The tour opens with a show in Hartford, Conn., that night.

Springsteen will be back at the Continental Airlines Arena Oct. 9-10, and is scheduled to perform Oct. 17-18 at Madison Square Garden in New York.

"Magic" is the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer's first album with his longtime New Jersey mates since the Sept. 11-inspired "The Rising" in 2002. Their 15-month tour in support of the album has sold out stadiums and arenas around the globe.

Aside from the atmospheric title track, "Magic" returns Springsteen to rock 'n' roll, and all 11 songs are new. He released a solo acoustic effort, "Devils & Dust," in 2005 and the folk-inspired "The Seeger Sessions" last year.

"Magic" features guitarists Steve Van Zandt and Nils Lofgren, bassist Garry Tallent, drummer Max Weinberg, keyboardists Danny Federici and Roy Bittan, "Big Man" Clarence Clemons on saxophone, violinist Soozie Tyrell and vocalist Patti Scialfa, Springsteen's wife.

Re: Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band 'Magic'

Wow, an interesting set list. It should get really worked over (as it does traditionally) by the time they hit the LASA.

Springsteen hits the road: 'And so it begins!'

The Boss and his eight mates (joined by violinist/vocalist Soozie Tyrell), all clad in black, got right to work on the new material, opening with the CD's first cut and single, Radio Nowhere, a hard-driving lament about the vapidity of American culture.

"And so it begins!" Springsteen cried before the band launched into the uplifting 1980 anthem The Ties That Bind and renewed its covenant with the sold-out crowd of 16,000-plus fist-pumping souls.
But he quickly steered back toward the bleak themes that would dominate the night: 9/11's aftermath (Lonesome Day), the Iraq war (the new and dynamically rendered Gypsy Biker), and distrust of authority (Magic, the chilling new title track he introduced via a reference to "the Orwellian nightmare … of the past six years"). Even the crowd-pleasing chestnuts —Night, She's the One, Darkness on the Edge of Town and the indestructible Born To Run— tended toward the desperate and defiant and away from the romantic. (So did the night's only dud, a wobbly duet between Springsteen and wife Patti Scialfa on Town Called Heartbreak from her recent solo album Play It As It Lays.)
The E Streeters, powered by drummer Max Weinberg and the guitars of Van Zandt, Nils Lofgren and bassist Garry Tallent, handled the eight new songs from Magic superbly, giving them a harder edge than on the more pop-sounding CD. And at least three of them, Gypsy Biker, Last to Die and Long Walk Home, seem destined for a permanent place in the canon. The latter two were sandwiched between The Rising and Badlands in a powerhouse finale that retraced the themes of resiliency, betrayal, alienation and defiance.

To soften the ride home the group finally showed its sweeter (though still bittersweet) side during the encores with the charming new Girls in Their Summer Clothes, a gum-smacking revival of Thundercrack and the plaintive sing-along Waitin' On a Sunny Day.

Will Spring Bring Another Bruce Springsteen Tour?

As some of you on the East Coast may have been lucky enough to witness, Bruce Springsteen and his E Street Band are currently in the throes of a month and half tour to promote his new, five-star album Magic. The tour, which will continue tomorrow night at a home state show in East Rutherford, New Jersey, happens to ignore the entire southern half of the U.S. But according to E Street guitarist (and Sopranos star) Little Steven Van Zandt, that could change in the spring. He told us that “this whole first ten weeks is [just] ‘Hello, we have a new record out.’” He went on to say that the full band will be “hitting everywhere starting in the spring for real.”

Of course he'll be back in the Spring.
He might even do stadiums again, if the buzz is high enough.

    Springsteen Scores Seventh U.K. Chart-Topper

    October 08, 2007, 9:55 AM ET

    Paul Sexton, London
    Billboard

Bruce Springsteen racked up his seventh U.K. No. 1 album yesterday (Oct. 7) with "Magic" (Columbia), while the Sugababes started a second week atop the British singles chart with "About You Now" (Universal Island).

The Springsteen album extends his span of U.K. chart-toppers to more than 22 years, since "Born in the U.S.A." hit No. 1 in February 1985 (eight months after first charting). He also reached the summit with "Tunnel of Love" (1987), "Human Touch" (1992), "Greatest Hits" (1995), "The Rising" (2002) and "Devils & Dust" (2005).

"Magic" arrived at the top ahead of Katie Melua's third album, "Pictures" (Dramatico), as last week's No. 1, Foo Fighters' "Echoes Silence Patience & Grace" (RCA), fell to No. 3. There was a No. 5 entry for "Shotters Nation" (Parlophone) by Babyshambles, fronted by Pete Doherty. Also new in the top 10 were Annie Lennox's "Songs of Mass Destruction" (RCA) at No. 7 and Bob Dylan's new three-CD compilation "Dylan" (Columbia). That's Dylan's 31st top 10 album in the territory.
