Producer Cameron Mackintosh announced that his current Broadway production of Boublil and Schonberg's Les Miserables will end its run Jan. 6, 2008.

The end date was announced Oct. 29 as the show's "final extension." The revival was originally produced and billed to be a limited six-month engagement.

Performances play at the Broadhurst Theatre, 235 West 44th Street.

The current production of Les Miz was overseen by director John Caird and opened on Nov. 6, 2006. Originally planned as a six-month limited engagement, the show "extended by an additional nine months due to strong box-office sales."

The production will have played 17 previews and 479 regular performances.

Combined with the original production's 6,680 performances, Les Miz on Broadway will have played a total of 7,176 performances. The original production is the third longest-running show in Broadway history.

The musical currently features John Owen-Jones as Jean Valjean, Robert Hunt as Javert, Judy Kuhn as Fantine, Gary Beach as Thenardier, Jenny Galloway as Madame Thenardier, Megan McGinnis as Eponine, Leah Horowitz as Cosette, Adam Jacobs as Marius and Max von Essen as Enjolras.

For tickets and information for the final nine weeks of Les Miz on Broadway, call Telecharge.com at (212) 239-6200 or visit www.lesmisnewyork.com.

Awww, I'm glad I saw it when I did!
    Good morning, son
    In twenty years from now
Maybe we'll both sit down and have a few beers
And I can tell you 'bout today
And how I picked you up and everything changed
    It was pain
    Sunny days and rain
I knew you'd feel the same things...

Glad I got to see it. And, looking at Playbill.com, also excited about Godspell in 2008!!

I'm still trying to figure out why they felt the need for a revivial just a few years after if officially closed.

He really was hilarious, as he always is. His facial expression alone make me laugh out loud!

I won't have a chance to see it in time.

How did it compare to the original Broadway run?

Better because Robert Hunt was in it
Ok, I didn't see the original broadway cast.
but I DO think that the cast of the tour when it was in L.A. was WAY better than the cast in this revival. I had a really hard time buying Valjean.

I've seen "Les Mis" four times now. The first two were in the early 90s catching the road company, which was really tight and thrilling. I first saw the show in 1992.

In '98 I saw the show on Broadway and left after Act I. The cast was terrible. No one was connecting with each other on stage. It was in really sad shape and the entire cast was just walking through the performance.

Saw this remounting a few months ago. Alex Gemignani was Valjean and was fantastic. Also, missed Gary Beach's Thenardier, but saw Chip Zien play the role instead. It was such a great performance. Overall the show was very well sung and acted. It reminded me a lot of why I fell in love with "Les Mis" so many years ago.
