Re: What book are you reading? (or just finished)

I just finished The Godfather, by Mario Puzo. I've seen the movie many times, and finally got around to reading the book. A couple of my favorite lines from the movie weren't in the book, and a lot of the flashback scenes from Godfather II were in the first book. There was a lot of extra storyline about Johnny Fontaine, a few changes in who got whacked and how, and a lot more graphic depictions of the fooling around.

finished Much Ado About Nothing. it was alright. now I'm reading The Taming of the Shrew.

Also read The Lifted Veil by George Eliot. I liked it more than Dr Jekyll, but these Victorian novellas are just sooo melodramatic and the narrator never stops whining ever.

Re: What book are you reading? (or just finished)

Finally finished reading thru my Indiana Jones library. Just finished:
Indiana Jones and the Army of the Dead by Steve Perry
To be honest, this being the first Indy book in quite awhile, and being released a few months after Kingdom of the Crystal Skull hit theaters, it was abit disappointing. The premise was there, but could've been executed a lot better. It was more from the enemies perspective, rather than Indy's. Would like to re-read Kingdom of the Crystal Skull again (if you didn't like the movie, you'll actually like the book) as Army of the Dead took place before Crystal Skull. Will take a book break from Indy and started reading:
The Lost Symbol by Dan Brown - got the illustrated version for Christmas.

Just finished The Second World War, Volume II: Their Finest Hour by Sir Winston Churchill.

Working on Michelangelo: His Life and His Era by Giovanni Papini. I got this 1952 copy from a clearance sale from the country library, and I had no idea that Papini was an academic suck up to Mussolini.

Also starting Four Decades of Magic: Celebrating the First Forty Years of Disney World compiled by Chad Denver Emerson. A lot of big names contributed to this work, so I am really looking forward to reading this.

I'm reading Kingdom Keepers IV: Power Play by Ridley Pearson. It's awesome so far! You don't even need to read the other ones, the first, like, 10 pages tells you what you missed. But I did read the other ones :P

I've been reading Janet Evanovich's series of Stephanie Plum novels, and while I didn't think I would really like them (recommended by my cousin, the mystery novel fan), I'm thoroughly enjoying them. The main character, Stephanie Plum, is pretty funny. I just finished #4 and will start #5 tomorrow, #6 is on hold at the library

Re: What book are you reading? (or just finished)

Finished Four Decades of Magic: Celebrating the First Forty Years of Disney World compiled by Chad Denver Emerson. Since I read the blog/websites of most of the contributors, there was not much that was unexpected. Everybody sort of took it safe and offered up a short, condensed version of what they already write. Everything was well written, but not very much of it was new to me. The highlight was probably Foxx Nolte's (aka Foxx Furr of Passport to Dreams Old & New) essay on George, the ghost that haunts Pirates of the Caribbean. The book is a nice piece for a decently versed fan of Walt Disney World, but would probably be a much more intriguing read for the casual or up and coming fan.

Still working on Michelangelo: His Life and His Era by Giovanni Papini.

Also started The Dream Machine: The Untold History of the Notorious V-22 Osprey by Richard Whittle. So far it is interested, but could use more pictures.

I'm reading Freedom by Jonathan Franzen.
Franzen captures this through the tribulations of a Midwestern family, the *Berglunds, whose successes, failures and appetite for self-invention reflect the larger story of millennial America.....

Finished The Dream Machine: The Untold History of the Notorious V-22 Osprey by Richard Whittle. Still think it could have used more pictures, but overall a good read.

Still working on Michelangelo: His Life and His Era by Giovanni Papini.

Now starting Roman Architecture by Frank Sear.

I still have a good number of unread books in my library, but I have been very tempted to buy a new book on Disney. In particular I am interested in Learning from Mickey, Donald and Walt: Essays on Disney's Edutainment Films edited by A. Bowdoin Van Riper.
