Re: What book are you reading? (or just finished)

I finished Coraline and am reading Nim's Island. Coraline reminded me a lot of the movie Monster House. Kind of a weird scary book for kids. It was interesting. I'm looking forward to the movie, should be dark though.

Nim's Island, I wanted to read before the movie came out - so far, I'm really enjoying it. After running a few of my elementary kids' bookfairs, I thought I should read a few of the books so I can recommend them to parents.

Will trade husband for Disneyland and DCA Pins!

    MAJOR
    By Todd Balf.
Before Baseball became a America's favorite sport, there was velodrome and road cycling and the quest to become the fastest human being on a bicycle.
Major Taylor, another great African- American athlete who went against incredible odds in a socially negative white climate.
The man had incredible self control, determination.
If the Great Depression had not come along , cycling most likely would have been bigger.

BTW! I just bought my first audiobook, Outlander.

I read it in 7th grade, but i think it will be very different now as an adult, mainly because i won't be flipping though the naughty bits, lol

I had got Seeing Redd last summer, but never did get a chance to read much of it until now. Wound up reading half the book yesterday.

Kinda funny -- it introduces a fighter plane called the Spinning T-Cup ride.

'A Lady Of Hidden Intent' by Tracie Peterson. Her best book, bar none.

I just finished Cast in Secret this morning. Entertaining but I wanted more. And the next book doesn't come out until August.

I just picked up An Assembly such as this, a novel of Fitzwilliam Darcy. Anyone read it? I was in a pride and prejudice mood, having reread it last week.

I woke up realllllly early this morning and couldn't get back to sleep so i started reading Drowning Ruth.
    Good morning, son
    In twenty years from now
Maybe we'll both sit down and have a few beers
And I can tell you 'bout today
And how I picked you up and everything changed
    It was pain
    Sunny days and rain
I knew you'd feel the same things...

Nazi Literature in The Americas by Robert Bolano is at his absurdist best. This book makes The Savage Detectives seem tame. I have taken enough Lit classes and read enough comparative and critical Lit stuff to see this as one of the best swipes at the genre and the Literary world in general that has been written in a long time. There are great laughs on every page.

    How was this?

I'm reading Flatland for school. It's not very good.

Chocolate Chip Murder by Joanne Fluke. I was in a murder mystery mood.
And I just bought Heart of Light about an hour ago. It looks good.

Re: What book are you reading? (or just finished)

Ok, spent the last 4 hours, but I finished the shining. VERY different from the movie and I'd like to see it remade more true to the book, definatly possible now, esp the hedge animals.

I finished HP 7 about 5 days ago...

I'm about 1/3 of the way through an audio of Outlander, they just got married. *squee*

Now I need something else in paper, any suggestions?

Why are they having you read flatland? It is mostly thought of today as a good introduction to the perception of dimensions. Its mostly read by mathematicians and computer science majors. It is of course satire about Victorian society but it is pretty opaque and obtuse.

It's for a trig math class. Apparently it's important or something. I finished it this morning and then in the paper I had to write about it picked it apart. I hate wasting my time with stupid books.
