What book are you reading? (or just finished) [Merged Threads]
What book are you reading or did you just finish reading? What genre was it? Would you recommend it?
I just finished a J.D. Robb/Nora Roberts book - Innocent in Death. It was my first JD Robb book. It was a murder mystery that takes place in the future (2025 or so). I've read quite a few Nora Roberts books, and I must say that this was a departure from her usual theme. I did like it and will probably look for a few more in the series.
I have just started Marley & Me.

They have this thing called a backspace button . . .
The Jennifer Morgue by Charles Stross.

I am currently reading Vinyl Leaves: Walt Disney World and America by Stephen M. Fjellman. I'm only about a quarter of the way through it and it just seems like one of those over-analytical books a person writes to sound smart. It just does't seem to be going anywhere except to say that Walt Disney World is Americana.
I recently finished Welcome Aboard the Disneyland Railroad! by Steve DeGaetano which was incredibly informative and wonderfully put together.

I didn't realize there's a button that would tell me how his name is spelled....

The Jennifer Morgue is the sequel to The Atrocity Archives. From Amazon:
Quote:
In "Atrocity," Bob, a low-level computer fix-it guy for the Laundry, a supersecret British agency that defends the world from occult happenings, finds himself promoted to fieldwork after he bravely saves the day during a routine demonstration gone awry.

In this alternately chilling and hilarious sequel to The Atrocity Archives (2004) from Hugo-winner Stross, Bob Howard is a computer übergeek employed by the Laundry, a secret British agency assigned to clean up incursions from other realities caused by the inadvertent manipulation of complex mathematical equations: in other words, magic. In 1975, the CIA used Howard Hughes's Glomar Explorer in a bungled attempt to raise a sunken Soviet submarine in order to access the Jennifer Morgue, an occult device that allows communication with the dead. Now a ruthless billionaire intends to try again, even if by doing so he awakens the Great Old Ones, who thwarted the earlier expedition. It's up to Bob and a collection of British eccentrics even Monty Python would consider odd to stop the bad guy and save the world, while getting receipts for all expenditures or else face the most dreaded menace of all: the Laundry's own auditors.

I just (finally) finished "Dune: The Battle of Corrin." I have "Hunters of Dune" but I'll probably have to go back and read the entire Dune series again before I start that....
So instead I'm reading Terry Prachetts's "Hogfather." He needs to write some more books.... I've already read almost everything he has out in paperback so far.

Stephen King - Everything's Eventual.
Pretty good so far.

A Long Way Down and Me and Mr Darcy. I finished A Book of a Thousand Days last week; it was really good. Before that I finished Confessions of a Jane Austen Addict; loved it!

I just finished Psychohistorical Crises by Donald Kingsbury. I highly recomend it, but only if you read and liked Asimov's Foundation Trilogy, since it's kind of a sequel/homage to them. The other Foundation sequels and prequels are not necessary at all. Actually, the original trilogy isn't totally necessary, but it helps to quickly understand alot of the events surrounding the story. And it also made it more enjoyable catching many of the subtle references.

I am re-reading a book that I first read during my high school days..."I Am Third", the first autobiography by the Chicago Bears great running back Gale Sayers first published in 1971. He writes in large part about about his special relationship with a teammate named Brian Piccolo, and it became the inspiration for the classic movie "Brian's Song" starring Billy Dee Williams and James Caan.

I love Terry Pratchett! I just finished "Masquerade" last night. I think it's one of the better ones. "Going Postal" is my favorite of all time. Is "Hogfather" any good? I heard they made that one into a movie.

So what kind of books are these? Genre? Plot?
I'm always looking for new authors!
