OMG. That was my favorite book too!

I wish I had noticed this thread earlier. DIP Jr is 9 and loves to read (a trait fortuneately inherited from my ex). Right now it's Prince Caspian obviously. So I think he would love the Phantom Tollbooth.

He also love Jules Vern and HG Wells and rectly read 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea and War Of The Worlds. He also likes the Goosebumps series.

I know my grandparents have 20 Volumes of a Series of Disney Books. I guess they are classics because theyre old. Theyre called Disney Storytime Treasures and they are kind of like the seguals to all of the great Disney Movies of Walt's Age.
Around here, however, we don't look backwards for very long. We keep moving forward, opening up new doors and doing new things... and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths." -Walt Disney

I agree. Hardy Boys ROCK! Here are my suggestions: Count of Monte Cristo, Things Fall Apart, To Kill A Mockingbird,

A book that I will always remember from that age range is The Cay by Theodore Taylor. It's a survival story set on an island and deals with many issues about growing up, racism, and being disabled.

Another I remember fondly from school was The Good Earth, but I think it would be a little bit mature for someone so young. I read that one in high school vs. The Cay in 6th grade.
