Oh no... New Kids on the Block reuniting

Yep. It's official. They were on the Today show yesterday to announce it.

I admit I liked them for awhile back in the day, but quickly outgrew them.

Re: Oh no... New Kids on the Block reuniting

I'm so excited about this! I cannot wait for the album and tour. They were my gateway into fandom, and I'm glad that I'm old enough now to understand it all. lol It was so good to see them all together again!!
I'm sure this thread will end up just bashing them (which is why I didn't start one!), so I'll stay away.
    Good morning, son
    In twenty years from now
Maybe we'll both sit down and have a few beers
And I can tell you 'bout today
And how I picked you up and everything changed
    It was pain
    Sunny days and rain
I knew you'd feel the same things...

It will be interesting to see if they have the same level of success the Spice Girls did when reuniting.

My sister was hugely into them when they came out, as was just about every pre-pubescent girl at the time.

I admit that I did and do like some of their music, but I was never a fan per se. I';; certainly listen to any new material with an open mind. Heck, I still like Backstreet Boys albums and they stopped being cool long ago too.

I might preview the new album on iTunes, but it's not the kind of music I listen to anymore. I listened to them in high school, but when I started college I migrated back to the music I was listening to in elementary school & junior high (rock, 80's new wave, goth and even some metal).

I still listen to my Hangin' Tough CD... ...and I like it.

To live would be an awfully big adventure.

I have some NKOTB on my Ipod, I was a HUGE fan when I was younger. Was on TV about them and I even attended two of their concerts.

I'll give their new songs a go but if its the teeny bopper stuff I don't think I'll keep listening.

Re: Oh no... New Kids on the Block reuniting

I think their biggest downfall was the over-merchandising. You could get everything from bed sheets to dolls. Posters, t-shirts & CDs are one thing, but when you get into fiction novels, puzzles, school supplies, purses & wallets... it's a little too much. Kind of like all the Hanna Montana and HSM stuff we see everywhere these days. You oversaturate the market and the dislike and jokes are going to start. They wanted to be respected but it's hard to get that when a bunch of 10 year olds start liking you.... unless you're Yanni. I remember my then 3 year old cousin liked them. She wants to die of embarrassment whenever I bring it up now (she'll be 22 next month).

And lets not forget the cartoon show. Sure The Beatles had one too but theirs was 100 times better than the NKOTB one.

Heh. More like 30-something & 40-something's. Joey, the youngest, is 35. Jon, the oldest, is 40.
