Re: A Lion Among Men by Gregory Maguire

Rather liked "Wicked". Hated "Son of a Witch". Just finished "Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister" and rather enjoyed that.

Haven't seen anything on Lost or the Lion one. Haven't read "Through a Looking Glass".

The one I had a hard time finishing was Confessions. I was surprisingly pleased by Mirror Mirror. I am really looking forward to reading Lion.

Loved Wicked, couldn't finish Son of a Witch but forced myself. Confessions was good and Mirror Mirror has had the spot on my nightstand for at least 3 years now - trying to force myself to read it. I start it and then it just doesn't work for me. I'll probably try Lion Among Men just for the Wizard of Oz connection and hope for the best.
I love my awesome crazy wonderful friends!!

Mirror Mirror is a slow start, but the story development is quite good. I think that the connections he makes are quite startling.

I looooooved Wicked a whole lot. I have read it a few times now. Son was good, but all over the place. I think that when Yackle dies, the story line is going to die as well.

Have you guys seen the made for TV movie that was from the book? It was awesome! I don't know where you can find it though. After watching the movie I had to read the book, and this was one case where the movie was better than the book.

Wicked was alright. I did enjoy how he twisted the story of OZ. Made me keep thinking of the orginal story. Saw the Broadway show and was not too impressed.

Heads up for Wicked fans, Barnes and Noble now has tons of merchandise for the book and the show. Check it out! Here is just a sample of some of the items.

Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister (2002) (TV)

I need to re-read Wicked and Son of a Witch (read that one) before I get into the next one...

I liked the Cinderella one, I muddled through the Snow White one, and I went through Wicked after I had already seen the musical.

I like his ideas but the Cinderella one was the only one that I truly enjoyed. The way that he connected FLB's Wizard of Oz and Wicked was amazing but I didn't actually enjoy the book....does that make sense?

    My best score ever!

Just finished Lion Among Men. I actually really enjoyed it and ended up liking it a lot better than Son of a Witch, mostly because it addressed a lot of the plotlines and characters that I wanted to see resolved.

I can't seem to get absorbed by this book. I have only read a few chapters so far. Hopefully I will get into it more.
