Nintendo sells 2.04 million Wii's in November

    Npd Group - Kotaku

Just when I thought they had peaked...WOW!!!

Nintendo sold 2.04 million Wiis to U.S. consumers last month, outselling its nearest competitor, the Xbox 360, more than two-to-one. As good as the news was for Nintendo, it was as bad for Sony.

While Wii sales more than doubled from the 981,000 units Nintendo sold in November last year, monthly PlayStation 3 sales dropped. Despite being cheaper and commanding a much stronger software line-up, Sony saw PS3 sales decline from 466,000 last November, to just 378,000 this November.

    Hardware Numbers:
    Wii - 2,040,000
    Nintendo DS - 1,570,000
    Xbox 360 - 836,000
    PSP - 421,000
    PlayStation 3 - 378,000
    PlayStation 2 - 206,000
    Software Numbers:
    01. Gears of War 2 (Xbox 360) - 1.56 million
    02. Call of Duty: World at War (Xbox 360) - 1.41 million
    03. Wii Play (Wii) - 796,000
    04. Wii Fit (Wii) - 697,000
    05. Mario Kart Wii (Wii) - 637,000
06: Call of Duty: World at War (PS3) - 597,000
    07. Guitar Hero World Tour (Wii) - 475,0000
    08. Left 4 Dead (Xbox 360) - 410,000
    09. Resistance 2 (PS3) - 385,000
    10. Wii Music (Wii) - 297,000

This was the first time I've seen Wii's on the shelf for any amount of time. There was a good 2-3 weeks where you could actually walk in to a store and buy a Wii if you wanted one. Now it looks like they are disappearing again.

Yup, there were several times where I would walk into Best Buy and they would have alot of Wii's. I figured this meant sales had finally slowed down.

I was in Toys R Us Saturday and they had one whole side of their case loaded with them. I went there last night to pick up a game and there was one Wii left!

Two years later and the wii is still selling, Nintendo has struck gold. on a seperate note, Club Nintendo, the Nintendo loyalty program just launched yesterday, getting free stuff for registering your products is always a good thing.

It wasn't so much that they had reached their peak as it was they finally got a spike in production for the holidays. Now they are back to being sold out again.

I just wish they'd start coming out with some awesome games for it. Looking at Game Informer, most of the games they have are for the 360 or PS3 only. I don't have, nor plan on getting either one anytime soon.

You would think developers would want to have games coming out for it with sales numbers like that. Even when you combine the PS3 and PS2 numbers, the Wii is still out-selling sony 4 to 1.

It's obvious people want a next-gen system as the 360 is still selling 3 years after it's release.

It also makes me wonder if the HD-DVD camp gave up too easily.

The big news everywhere is Sony's performance with the PS3. There sales are down HUGE from the same time last year. I think that it not being the cheapest Blu-Ray player anymore is finally biting it in the butt.

No kidding. The big holiday game from Nintendo is Animal Crossing, a so-so received rehash of the last game in the series.

Nintendo has attracted a broad new demographic to gaming, but the system is flooded with garbage titles as a result. Their next system may not have the same broad appeal as the Wii, and they need to continue to service those of us who play the Mario's and Zelda's and Metroid's.

They have an opportunity here to expand their audience, but they seem to be neglecting a significant portion as of late.
