Nielsen console usage report

Not surprisingly, the PS2 comes in at almost a third of the minutes played by console. The 360 and Wii combined make up another third. The shocking stat is that more people play the original XBox than the PS3. I guess this is finally answering the question of how many PS3's were bought as Blu-Ray players rather than game consoles.

Wii - 13.4%
XBox - 9.7%
PS3 - 7.3%
Gamecube - 4.6%
Other - 6.2%

At least the PS3 beat the Gamecube...

I am surprised that the gamecube is played that much. We still have ours. We play it once in a while. We have xbox 360 that we play everyday.

I play my Ps3 and my PC mostly -- my Wii is more or less collecting dust at the moment. What has come out for the Wii in the last 6 months that's worth buying?

I trust these types of ratings even less then their TV ratings. At least now in TV they have some automation in their data collection.

These types of surveys have such poor data collection methods.. I think the only way they justify it is that their collection would suck equally between all test subjects.. hehe

Yep. Even if the numbers are accurate, there is hardly any useful analysis to pull from them. The PS2 has a HUGE installed base and still sells well. A lot of people still play it. Water is still wet.

I'm not surprised to see the original Xbox ranked higher than Gamecube and PS3. There are plenty of dedicated Halo2 players out there still playing it on the old black behemoth.
