Nintendo 3DS being announced at E3?

Now I just need to figure out if my DS Lite can hold me off until then!

Nintendo Announces New Hardware, The Nintendo 3DS - Top - Kotaku

At E3, Nintendo will be introducing new hardware, the Nintendo 3DS.

In an official release, Nintendo describes the portable as allowing games to be "enjoyed with 3D effects without the need for any special glasses". It is not yet known how the 3D effects will work, but it is possible that it could work like this Japan-only DSiWare game.

According to Nintendo, the product will go on sale between April 2010 and March 2011.

The Nintendo 3DS will succeeded the Nintendo DS series and will have backward compatibility for Nintendo DS and DSi games. It is important to stress that the Nintendo 3DS is a new hardware series.

    I believe 3DS is a temporary name.

I'm excited to hear more about it. Suprised it's being released so soon, especially with the DS still hot on sales.

Re: Nintendo 3DS being announced at E3?

3DS will be playable at this years E3

other rumors are that it will use the Nvidia Tegra chipset and have force feedback haha

I wonder how much better the graphics will be and how the 3D effect will work, most people say headtracking.

I wonder if this is a second chance for games like Mario Clash if anyone remembers that one?

There's an article on Kotaku that it may be a trick the iPhone uses with a motion sensor.

I believe there was a rumor a while back that the development kids for the "next generation DS" had Gamecube level graphics.

well the cheapest versions of the Tegra chip rumored to be used by Nintendo are in devices like the ZuneHD so if you look at video clips of that you get a good idea of the minimum standard we'd likely get (PSP level) though it's possible that Nintendo could have ordered the second generation chip.

The other possiblity is that Nintendo went with ATI and is using a mobilized version of the GC/Wii processor since that chip also has very low energy draws and could probably be shifted into a portible pretty easily at this point.

I'd appreciate anything significantly above the current DS level at this point and obviously if Nintendo has any brains they'll strike above iPhone since it's bad for people to have phones outclassing their own system.

June 15-17 which means we can expect a Nintendo trade show on the 14th to show off the system and then it would be playable on the show floor (or at least that seems to be what's implied).

Many places are having pre-E3 events the day before but the keynotes aren't until the 15th/16th. I don't believe any major keynotes are on te 17th.

you sure? Console Manufacturers have always traditionally had keynotes before the opening of the show floor. I know there are other keynotes/interviews and events going on during the run of the show, but I don't remember much from the console makers except the time Nintendo showed the Smash Brothers Brawl trailer mid E3.

I can see Nintendo and Sony pulling a press conference on the 15th in the morning though as I remember that happening before. If I'm not mistaken usually Microsoft goes first with a nightime press conference before the event.

I'm actually not sure what kind of keynotes are held at the event itself, always seemed like the E3 building itself was used to score personalized interviews with creators as well as getting hands on experience with games/devices.

I believe the only one to typically have a pre-e3 is Microsoft, who is typically the night before. Nintendo and Sony usually do theirs the morning of.

yep the DSiXL is supposed to be on market like as of a day or so ago I think? VERY weird to announce a next gen product while still launching another rendition of your current gen project.

Seems a bit preliminary to write off the 3D until we know how it's done. a 3D glassesless display could work by adding depth and simply being another way of having superior graphics. I'm curious to see how the technology works anyways.

I don't think 3D needs to always be associated with headaches and annoying glasses.

The 3DS might look like this from these video. Remember this is just theories out right now. They may borrow from this concept of a game:

Also, this is another way the games may be like:

Or we may just be wrong and get something like this:
