What's next for Roller Coaster Tycoon??

What improved stuff would you like to see in the next Expansion pack or Roller Coaster Tycoon game?

I hope that Atari & Frontier find a way to keep the same graphics/features of RCT3 but make it more easier to run without it getting slow when the many actions in the park are being performed at once. Basically I want them to find a way to make the game run faster regardless of everything going on in the park at the same time. I mean right now probably the only way to make this game work perfectly is to have some type of powerful computer that most people can't afford. Are there even any computers here in America that can play this game perfectly???

I think it would be cool to also make our own parades and create our own characters.

Does RCT have a dive machine that can do inversions like Sheikra at Busch Gardens Africa Tampa bay. If not I would love to include this... Also add some more original rides not just from six flags parks...

Of course it would be nice for Disney to team up with Atari & Frontier to make a Disneyland type of RCT game.

Simply put, not much (if anything at all). Chris Sawyer has sued Atari over missing monies, and not giving him his percentage of the profits. A lawsuit with Atari and Frontier just ended, over the game Thrillville, a theme-park game that Frontier is making for the consoles (published by LucasArts), and now it seems that with a staff change at Atari, RCT3 may be the last of RCT for quite a while.

Frontier has said they will support us on their forums, and hopefully fix some bugs and optimize some code. However, that's a hard thing to do with their now limited resources (see: Atari not requesting anymore patches), and other projects.

Atari is in the dumps, now a penny stock, and deeply in debt. If anything happens with RCT, it will all be up to Chris Sawyer. However, with his last game a flop (Locomotion), nothings looking too good.

I think continued support to the rather rickety code would have to be it. I honestly think RCT3 should just be it really. I personally feel the move to 3D was no tin the spirit of RCT. AT one point I would have told you I'd love to see something available to allow a sandbox in RCT2, but now I do not.

As far as we know (The Atari Community), The future of the RCT franchise is in LA-LA Land. Nobody knows where its going, It would be a shame if the rct franchise had to die because it has one of the biggest fan communities in gaming history.

It is. But If they did make an RCT4 I dont think I would play it as much as RCT3. Look at all the possibilities with RCT3. You can do almost anything with that game. If they took some of the great features away (Custom Scenery, Video Route Editor, Advanced Particle Editer, The Mixmasters) I dont think I would play it at all.

RCT3 was a turn off to me. At first it was cool, then it went slow. So all I do is record ride throughs of my rides, then edit the sound into them, and watch those videos more than I play the game itself. It gives me reason not to play RCT3, but still enjoy my rides.

I haven't had the patience to sit and learn RCT3. I bought the Mac version and it still insist on me using buttons my keyboard or mouse do not have. I have no plans to buy a two button mouse just for RCT3. So unless I aquire one I'm just going to stick to parkmaking in RCT2.

Re: What's next for Roller Coaster Tycoon??

I agree Lazyboy. The big joke is that they say it is like RCT1&2 when it is not. They say we can build paths the same way we did in the other two which is complete hogwash really. Oh well, it just gives me reason to finish my Disneyland Dockport theme park on RCT2.

PLUS it is so dang complicated to build a waterfall!!! I tried to build one for over 40 minutes and was un-successful. I tried to find a tutorial on it and was unsuccessful. I tried to get help here on Mice Chat and was unsuccessful.

On top of that, I want to know why Atari even released this game since it runs slower than it should on most average computers. Atari did more than drop the ball, they broke it with this game.

Yup, RCT2 all the way - if only they had a proper sandbox in it. I love that game engine, RCT3 was one huge step away from it. Although it runs fine on my PC cos it has the graphics engine to cope with it, I still feel it is too complicated to use - and too realistic.

I think the lack of a sandbox shows a lot of creativity on the part of those who play. Especially with all the scenery that is available.

Re: What's next for Roller Coaster Tycoon??

It's the exact same way to build paths in RCT3 as it is in all the other RCT games. You choose either a path or a queu, chose the sytle of ground cover and click on the ground. Then just click on the ground or click on the arrows in the direction you want and click away. Paths are the easiest of all the features. A waterfall is also easy. Lower some ground and fill with water. Raise a block of land equal to or smaller, then lower the center portion of that block and fill it with water, leaving a one tile width rim. Click on the waterfall icon then click on the upper water and there it is. If the upper water is too low or high then the waterfall might not appear. Lower or raise the upper block and it should work. The upper portion does have to be right next to the lower water. I have a great waterfall in my Park.

It is sad to hear all the problems that Ataris is having, and that Chris has had problems with Atari. It's such an addicitng game. I built over 100 parks with RCT1, then got RCT2 and didn't like it at all. Then got RCT3, and the computer updated (which was needed regardless) and had no problem at all figuring out the icon button way of building things. Work with for awhile and the whole construction thing gets easier and easier. I am working now on building just one big ride, Indian Jones from Disneyland. Sure, it's hard work, but then anything worthwhile is hard work.
