My son keeps asking me about a head to head game cord or something so two people can play the same game? Does anyone know anything about this? He really wants Mario Hoops 3 on 3 and says that we need a special cord to connect my other son's Nintendo - so, HELP?!! What is it??

The DS is a wireless system, so if both players are within a certain range of each other they should be able to play the game - they just have to set up their systems to recognize each other. Stuff like this is always covered in the instruction guide that comes with every game.Choose your team of three characters from the Mario universe and hit the parquet. Also, I couldn't find if this is one of the games where only one player needs the game. There are some games where you can wirelessly transfer a head to head game, but only that - and as soon as you turn off your DS it will lose that connection totally.
I'll be talking my own DS to the next few meets, so if you're there with your sons I can show you all about this.
My advice would be to check the manual of the game.
I looked it up on the nintendo ds website - Mario Hoops is a game that is wireless and only requires one game to be bought. Thank heavens! I'm sure they'll bring their toys with them the next time we come to Dland!

Jen, do you need a special cord to conect both game boys? I have a cord that came with a gameboy I bought on the web. never used it yet, not sure how to .
Karla, on certain games (Pokemon Red and Green for example) can be connected with a cord. Gameboy games can be connected via that cord. Read the instructions that come with the game. Look for the icons on the game boxes. The icons on the back will tell you
- how many players the games supports
- if the game supports wireless head to head
- if playing head to head, if each player needs a copy of the game or if you can download the game from the other person
- if the game supports internet play (head to head over the internet)
The fact many games can be played with only a single copy of the game is a huge benefit.. and actually steers us a good bit on which games we buy. I buy the head to head games more so my kids can play against each other.
Here are the icons I was talking about (from the DS Manual)
Gameboy and Gameboy Color - no idea if they can even BE connected
Gameboy Advance/Advance SP can be connected through a Gameboy cable
Nintendo DS/DS Lite- are wireless and do not need a cable.
Yup.. they can! they had a head to head cable. Used to play tetris this way for ages. However, the 4 way cable I think was something new for GBA.
If you are talking DS then you do not need a cord you just need a game with multiplayer options and it will work wireless.
