The NPD Group released videogame hardware and software sales data for July and, yet again, Nintendo dominated the charts. Amazingly, Wii and DS together outsold final figures for PlayStation 2, PSP, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 combined. Nintendo's two systems have held the number one and two top slots in the hardware sales charts for nine months running.
The numbers:
Nintendo Wii: 425,000
Nintendo DS:405,000
PS2:221,000
PSP:213,000
Xbox 360:169,000
PS3:158,000

Just when I think Wii sales are going to start to drop, it comes out on top again. It'll be interesting to see what the numbers look like once each system has their big titles release later this year. I think Nintendo needs to pick up the pace and get more Wii's in stores. I have yet to see a Wii on a store shelf and sooner or later its going to have a huge backlash among the consumers. Maybe I can sell my used Wii and get some extra $$. I'm getting married soon and every dollar counts.

On the software side, the best-selling game in July was NCAA Football 08 for Xbox 360 with nearly 400,000 units. The title was followed by the PS2 Guitar Hero Encore: Rocks the 80s with 339,000 in sales. Wii Play rounded out the top three with about 280,000 sold. NCAA Football for PS2 amassed 235,000 in sales and Mario Party 8 completed the top five with 177,000 in sales
