If you dance as a hobby for fun, but not very strenuously, then I wouldn't consider it a sport.
But if you dance as a very serious hobby/career, I definitely think dancing could be called a sport.
Overall, I think there's a difference between dancing for fun (turning on some music and trying out some dance moves) and really being serious about dance (performing, competing, or dancing very often).
It's a moot point, but i voted no because it is a performing art, that yes, requires physical stamina and abilities. But this really is not a fact yes or no, it's an opinion. I also do not believe aesthetics is an ability nor a skill.

Irish step dancing is a sport. So I consider myself an athlete, yes.
As far as the types of dancing like ballet/tap/jazz/contemporary/hip-hop/etc., I agree, those are performing arts. One of the differences is that all of those types have recitals, but I have competitions.
Sport or not, dancing should not be degraded. It's so much harder than it looks, and it requires just as much hard work, skill and stamina as any other sport does.
