    PS3 Suggestions

I am starting to look into getting a PS3 and would appreciate any input you can provide.

One of my main goals is for it to be reverse compatible to PS2 games.

Wireless functions would be nice since my DSL is upstairs and the game downstairs but it's not vital as I don't really play online much. It would just be convenient to download updates/etc.

Hard drive size is also probably not a big deal as it's just me and I don't play a ton of games. For basic gamer how big of a drive do I need ?

From what I can tell the 20 and 60 drives have the PS2 chip.

I'm not in a huge rush, if prices and/or features are expected to change ?

    Thanks in advance

    Re: PS3 Suggestions

If you want to play PS2 games as of now you have two options:

    - Wait for the 80gb pack to come out this summer. For $499 its not a bad deal - it will have the Metal Gear Solid 4 game (supposed to be HUGE and by the looks of the beta a great, great game) and a Dualshock 3 (rumble).

    - Keep your PS2 and just play your PS2 games on that.

The 20gb and 60gb have not been on the market for some time now.

Keep in mind the 80gb will not be 100% backwards compatible. I think the estimate I saw last is 75% - 80% BC. Not bad, but not 100%. They could have added to the list since I last saw this estimate but I have not kept up on it.

I have a 60gb and had LOTS of PS2 games and planned on playing them all long after I got the PS3. But I found that after I started to play PS3 games I just could not go back to PS2 games. I ended up selling just about all of my PS2 games. I still have a few of them that I could not bring myself to sell but I still have not touched them. I find this is true for lots of people, So that is something for you to give some serious thought to.

As for wireless it has a built in wireless adapter. Hook it up to your wi-fi. If for not other reason do it so you can get system updates easily and game demos. There is also some great games on the Playstation Network (PSN) that are well worth the ~$10 a game. And if you do not plan on playing online that much its ok because online gaming is free which is great for somebody like you who does not plan on playing online that often. But really, there is some great online play to be had. And even the best games are made better by their online play. I think about it like this - take Call Of Duty 4 for example.... the single player is great, but you will get tired of it soon. There is only so many times you can do the exact same thing in the same game When you play online the game is always different. There will always be somebody better than you that pushes you to get better, and there is always somebody worse than you who you will take great pleasure in blasting over and over again. It also gives your games a MUCH longer life which is great. And games like Warhawk and the next SOCOM are online only (and Warhawk is a great game that comes with a free bluetooth headset).

Games you should pick up -

    Uncharted
    Warhawk
    Grand Theft Auto 4
    Gran Turismo 4
    MLB 08 The Show
    Hevanly Sword
    Resistance
    Burnout Paradise
Call Of Duty 4 (game of the year ed)

If you have a PS2 already, buy the 40GB and leave them both hooked up. If you decide you want a bigger drive, you can buy a 500 GB for a $100 on Amazon. The drive is a plug and play.

If you want MGS4 then get the 80GB bundle. The Dualshock does blow the standard controller away. The non-rumble controllers feel dead when you're used to rumble and they are too light as well.

If your TV is HDMI, buy your cables online.

Buy the extended warranty, no matter what they say, they fail pretty often. I'm on my second and a couple of others on MC have had failures as well.

Personally, I would get a 40GB and upgrade the drive later.

I have been looking some on Ebay for a 60 model

I'm not in a huge rush, but the Godfather video game has lots of PS3 enhancements.

While that is a *great* deal it does not match what he is looking for as far as PS2 games:

BTW, that is beyond a *great* deal and more of a *stupid* deal.

Your best bet for the backwards compatible Ps3s are still ebay.

Though with the Ps3s selling much better now, I wonder if there's any plans to put the emotion engine back in again (now that manufacturing costs are presumably down in other areas)? At least now the Ps3 games are getting way better.
