What's the saddest moment in a holiday TV or movie special?

I was reading an article on ew.com and it said how the writer of that article said that the saddest moment for her was Frosty melted in the greenhouse.

I have to agree with that one. I bawled.

This is what was said:

So, I'm sitting down to enjoy my Original Christmas Classics Limited Keepsake Edition DVD -- that's a collection that includes Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, Frosty the Snowman, Santa Claus is Comin' to Town!, The Little Drummer Boy, Mr. Magoo's Christmas Carol, Cricket on the Hearth, and Frosty Returns -- when I read the back of the box: "Remember When... Frosty was brought to life by a top hat on Christmas Day?" No, actually. I remember when Frosty melted in that greenhouse because I sobbed. Every year. Watching it again just now, I thought for the first time about how horrible that must have been for little Karen to witness! It's like the end of Titanic. In reverse!

I remember when my daughter was 3, I bought a book of Fairy Tales and would read her a couple of mew one every night. That was the saddest one ever! I had to have wifey read it because I couldn't belive what I just read.

Gotta agree with Frosty in the greenhouse.

To this day I remember seeing it for the first time and crying my eyes out. It came out in '69 but I was only 2 then, so I was probably 4 when I saw it for the first time. It really was my first experience with "death" if you will. For years after that I still got a cringe in my tummy when that scene came up, not crying, just an "oh no here it comes, don't cry don't cry"

I have to agree with the poster who mentioned the impending demise of Tiny Tim. We went to see a live production of A Christmas Carol this year, and when the ghost of Christmas yet-to-come takes Scrooge to visit the Crachit's home after Tiny Tim's death, I cried like a bay.

The end of the Small One (though it does end kinda happy)

Oh and random as it is, the end of the Pinky & the Brain christmas special where the Brain learns what Pinky asked Santa for for Christmas (and then the present Pinky ends up getting him )

Also, anyone remember the Christmas Toy (by Jim Henson) the end of that always made me sad as a kid (though it ends up having a happy ending)

I think that's it... most X-mas specials end up making me happy

I was going to say that. The Disney version always makes my eyes watery. And in The Little Drumer Boy when his goat gets ran over at the end, but then is saved. Hope that isn't spoiling it for anybody.
