NEW YORK -- Conan O'Brien's getting help from an old friend when he takes up the new job this summer.

Andy Richter will join "The Tonight Show With Conan O'Brien" as the show's announcer, NBC announced Tuesday afternoon. It will be the first time the two have worked together daily since Richter left "Late Night With Conan O'Brien" nine years ago.

"The Tonight Show With Conan O'Brien" begins June 1 from a newly constructed studio; O'Brien left his "Late Night" perch last week to get ready.

Richter will not only announce but also be in comedic pieces, the network said.

O'Brien said that he has remained close friends with Richter since May 2000, when the latter left "Late Night" on a daily basis.

"We have a proven chemistry that will be an incredible asset to 'The Tonight Show,' " O'Brien said. "I'm looking forward to working with Andy on a daily basis again, particularly since he owes me $300."

Richter was O'Brien's comedic sidekick on "Late Night" from 1993 when the show began to 2000. He has been an actor and writer since then, with shows on Fox and NBC as well as movies.

    NNL doesn't really care
    Good morning, son
    In twenty years from now
Maybe we'll both sit down and have a few beers
And I can tell you 'bout today
And how I picked you up and everything changed
    It was pain
    Sunny days and rain
I knew you'd feel the same things...

I'm sorry that Richter's big screen film career didn't take off like I thought it would. (Sorry about talking you into that one, Andy!)

But I am incredibly pleased with these 2 getting back together. Great team!

Now I just need to get on a schedule that will allow me stay up late enough to watch...

Well, Joel is kind of reaching the age of retirement. Now, with this transition between shows it's a good time for him to step down.

I'll miss him as well, but at least we get a decent replacement.

Yeah, I don't think that Joel was moving to LA anyway, so they needed a new announcer.

At least they didn't go with Stuttering John.

I'm so glad that I can actually stay up late enough to watch Conan now.

Okay, we've never met in person, but I'm bringing the idea up now: Conan Meet.
Pick a day to go to Universal City, get tickets early, hang out at City Walk until about 5:00pm and see the show! Who's with me?
    Oo-de-lally!
