    Whatever happned to Disney Broadcasting?

    Whatever happened to the real Disney Channel and Toon Disney? You may be asking me, "What are you talking about, we already have Disney XD and Disney Channel." But I'm not talking about Hannah Montana, The Jonas Brothers, The Suite Life, Aaron Stone, or any of that crap. If you're one of the younger MCers on the site, and grew up watching this or do not know what I'm talking about, let me elaborate.

    I'm talking about stuff like this:

    [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bWR414laRY8"]YouTube- Imagineer That Video #1[/ame]
    [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Hr5GCgbYms"]YouTube- Walt Disney Imagineering[/ame]
    [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Edofl2MH98I"]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Edofl2MH98I[/ame]
    [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7NzzzcOWPH0"]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7NzzzcOWPH0[/ame]
    [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZiVXYs6VLWw"]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZiVXYs6VLWw[/ame]
    [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vcbTzSQdn1k"]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vcbTzSQdn1k[/ame]
    [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JoFinwA9E8A"]YouTube- Even Stevens Intro[/ame]
    [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LTkmaE_QWMQ"]YouTube- Rolie Polie Olie Theme Song[/ame]
    [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3E-rJu0sRAM"]YouTube- Out Of The Box Theme[/ame]
    [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k6Vov8G_yFk"]YouTube- P B & J Otter Theme Song[/ame]
    And this

    I may be just reminiscing, but this brings up an important discussion IMO.
    Back in the late 90's and early 2000s, I always woke up to turn on the TV to Disney as I'd usually do and I'd be watching one of these shows (there are many more, I just selected a few examples). The videos and images above are in no particular order, but they range from Toon Disney, Zoog Disney, Disney Channel, Playhouse Disney, and one in particular was the classic "Imagineer That!" short serial aired during commercials, most similar to the modern As the Bell Rings, Disney 365, or get_connected. This was personally my favorite thing to watch ever, and I unfortunately have a very vague memory of it, but there are luckily 3-4 on YouTube to spare.

    It may be just me, but as the years went by the originality and creativity of the television programming gradually started to lack and become dull and uninteresting. To me there was a great appeal to the viewer back then and it appealed to me even as I grew older. But now it appears with Hannah Montana and the Jonas Brothers (MCers who are fans of these bands, skip this paragraph as I'm going to rant a bit), it's really corny and not great for Disney's image.

    Also, is it just me, or is it that nowadays that Disney Television appeals more commonly to girls than boys? Sure we have Disney XD for Sports, but is Disney implying that Disney Channel is a television channels for girls more than boys? I remember when I used to watch it it appealed to both sexes equally, rather than just one.

    I'm not completely bashing the Disney Channel from today, but there are a couple good things reminiscent of the old DC. To me, Phineas and Ferb is one of them (but obviously more modernized).

    I may just be throwing out random rants and scattered opinions, but I just noticed there really is one other thread of this on a different site with the last post from 2006. I thought it would be a good idea to bring this up now in today's world of televising Disney, but I am really curious on what you think of Disney's transition within the past decade.

    Discuss.

    Re: Whatever happned to Disney Broadcasting?

    In the mid 90's it was scaled WAY back, about the same time that the Disney Afternoon disappeared. (hmmm, that was about the same time that Frank Wells passed away) In the early 90's WB was also pumping out the new Toon's, too! Even Nickelodian had a few.

    These days, WB animation is nowhere to be seen. Nickelodian still has a few animated shows with the main star being SpongeBob, with backups of Fairy Oddparents and Jimmy Neutron, and trying to catch a wave are the Penguins of Madagascar, and they do try some new toons from time to time. Cartoon Network is just plain pathetic.

    As for Disney, they haven't given up on the half hour toons completely, and at least they are trying something new every once in a while, most recently with Phineas and Ferb, but they have also had Kim Possible, and some of the movie inspired series Emperors New Groove/School, Tarzan, Lilo and Stitch, and a unique "House of Mouse."

    But there area unfortunately, a plethora of painful toons that Disney attempted with Buzz Lightyear, Brandy and Mr Whiskers , Dave the Barbarian, Teamo Supremo .

    Playhouse Disney has refreshed on a fairly regular basis is the morning preschool line up from Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, Little Einsteins, multiple Pooh attempts, Handy Manny etc. It's just sad that the toons on Playhouse Disney are just lame.

    So Toons have gone extinct, so much as the quality of their toon's has deteriorated, and the real hits are few.

    Totally true. The least Disney can do in the least is put most of the OTHER shows on DVD that haven't been already (Most specifically, House of Mouse ). I noticed that in the past few years before Disney XD that the original cartoons were still aired, but at midnight and late at night when nobody nationwide (most particularly, kids) are awake to watch.

    Disney XD replaced Toon Disney, not that it was already much different. But I loved Toon Disney, and even some old Disney Channel stuff. Too bad it's all gone now.

    They need a Disney Channel Classic channel. Show all that old programming from the 80's and early 90's.

    Hey it works for ESPN and VH1!

    Who needs quality programming when you can make a quick buck off of some no-talent hacks attempting to sing and dance?

    Remember, the same person responsible for the channel is now the head of Walt Disney Pictures.

    Ah yes, the ye old 90's toons of years gone past, what tearful memories they played out.

    I was a mega fan of Gargoyles,DuckTales,Goof Troop and Aladdin:The Animated Series(featuring the only good use of Iago). I actually feel sorry for you,aimstar.
    The best that infant Disney television could provide to you was tired pedophiles in sweaty and badly made costumes.What a shame, yet what great memories!

    I miss Vault Disney more than anything else. I used to stay up late just to watch "Walt Disney Presents" and I would get all happy whenever it was an old show about Disneyland or Disney World.

    I grew up with 90's Disney, but I do remember during summertime, at 10 pm they showed the old Mickey Mouse Club episodes. My Mom let me stay up that late because she watched them with me. They were awesome. :]
