    Good morning, son
    In twenty years from now
Maybe we'll both sit down and have a few beers
And I can tell you 'bout today
And how I picked you up and everything changed
    It was pain
    Sunny days and rain
I knew you'd feel the same things...

    Article about Idols slumping ratings:

Jessica Simpson's 'The Price Of Beauty' Struggles to Attract - Yahoo! TV Blog

"American Idol" has been a behemoth of a show for 9 straight seasons. But despite some of the cosmetic changes to the judges table, most notably Ellen Degeneres' replacement of Paula Abdul, the show's ratings have been slumping. This past week, the Top 12 performed, bringing in a victorious average of 22.6 million viewers for Tuesday night, and 20.5 million for Wednesday night, according to Zap2It. However, this is down more than 10% from last year's Top 13 show, which brought in an average 25.2 million viewers. Some have blamed it on the departure of Paula and her nightly antics, while others feel it's the fault of this season's less-than-spectacular contestants.
It's for sure the contestants, at least for me.

I think its a combo of both. I know people who don't watch anymore because Paula isn't there, and the contestants suck so much that I can see people turning the channel.

Yeah, I lost interest in the season already. Last year was a very good season because you had so many people that stood out for good reasons and you couldn't tell which one's could go on winning. I mean, Adam, Danny, Kris, and Alison had very good and strong fan bases.

That's been alot of my problem this year. No one is truly wowing me this time. I do like Crystal Bowersox in a way. But I've been more blown away more in the past.

i could care less about Paula being gone...she never did a thing for me

but man, the contestants are just so sub-par this year! i wonder if they know AI is a sinking ship and just dont' care anymore since Simon will be gone after this season and that will most likely be the AI-killer
Will there be screams when the sun sets,

siobhan was not off key.. screechy and screamy? yes.. quite a bit.. but she was definitely ON key.

she sang the song in A minor, and the high note she hit was a G#, which is the major seventh of that key. and while the major seventh chord does create some dissonance, it is not "off key".

There is no one decent this year, I agree. I get bored watching it, even with Ellen's comic relief.

But it's about to get worse. This week's mentor: Miley Cyrus.

She is performing her new song (and promoting her movie), as well as Demi Lovato and Joe Jonas performing their new song.
Press today is so concerned with cool vs. not cool that they're starting to forget good vs. bad. I'm not sure I'll ever be "cool", but I will always tirelessly strive to be "great". - Josh Groban

It's off key if she was supposes to sing an A and not a G-sharp.

    no.

if she sang an A, it would have been both screechy and sounded wrong. that phrase/bar of the song wasn't the resolving one. the falsetto "painted black" she sang at the very end was the resolving A you wanted to hear.

trust, if she wanted to hit the high A, she could've done it, because she hit it two notes before the high G#. but that would resolve the song before it was even done. and there wouldn't have been a point to the falsetto ending.

I don't know WHAT note it was supposed to be, but it was shrill and SCREAMING and sounded horrible. Her high note yesterday wasn't as bad, but it still wasn't good. I really hope that this isn't going to be her shtick.

not disagreeing with you at all with this. just pointing out that having a bad tone and being off-key are totally unrelated

i didn't get to watch last night's episode, so i'm going to check it out right now.. but from what i'm hearing it wasn't a very good one all around.. sounds like a trend for this set of contestants!!

i think it's a sign that American Idol has finally run its course... with the judges panel undergoing drastic changes these past two seasons.. and Simon leaving after this one. no one even seems successful in their music career after Carrie Underwood's year.

i think they just need to stop...

[edit]: to add another on the list of Idol failing -- Miley Cyrus mentoring. -__-
