Conan is taking his show to TBS

Conan O'Brien is going to TBS

Conan O'Brien, the former host of NBC's "Tonight Show" who lost the program to Jay Leno earlier this year, has signed a deal for a new late-night program on TBS, the basic-cable network owned by Time Warner. O'Brien's show will start in November at 11 p.m. George Lopez, the comedian who currently occupies that slot, will have his show move to midnight.

"In three months, I've gone from network television to Twitter to performing live in theaters, and now I'm headed to basic cable. My plan is working perfectly," O'Brien said in a statement.

What a shocker! I never thought he would end up basic cable. I guess this is the end for "Lopez Tonight"

According to ABC, Lopez Tonight is moving to Midnight.

Honestly, I think this is probably the best news for fans of Conan. He won't have the restrictions he has on regular TV and he will be 30 minutes earlier than Jay and Dave and a full hour earlier than Kimmel.

"Basic Cable" is no longer the graveyard it once was, those stations are turning out some great shows right now.

Plus, on FIOS we can watch Conan at 8pm, or record him and watch when we go to bed at 10pm.

Or it could be a great Lead in for George, That is what im my opinion hurt Conan on the late show, He had Jay for a lead in. I mean I think George Lopez is a funny comic but I have never watched his show, Now there is a good chance that I will end up watching it when Conan makes the move.

I've tried watching Lopez Tonight, it's un-watchable. And I think George Lopez is hilarious. Well, his stand-up is. His "Animal Voices" he does in the movies, not so much.

"Lopez Tonight" moving to midnite pretty much means TBS lost faith in the show. If they were happy with George's show they wouldnt have gone after Conan and I dont see Conan helping "Lopez Tonight" in the ratings too much. Maybe George will go back to doing his awesome stand up shows because his talk show has been a big disappointment to me.
Working for Warner Bros though, i'm hoping that Conan moves his show to the Warner lot. I'll be stalking him every day..lol

Way to go Conan! What a shocker...TBS? I was almost 100% sure FOX would take advantage of the situation and snag O'Brien.

I'm happy to see Conan coming back to TV, but I was also hoping it would be a network TV home. Fox would have been great, but I think it was just too complicated to get all the affiliates on board who could make more money showing Seinfeld and other syndicated programs. I agree there are a lot of great shows on cable, but netwtork TV is still the king. When people have to buy or subscribe to something to see you, your audience will be limited.

The affiliates not giving is likely the main sticking point.
I'm also guessing that Warner would give him more freedom than Fox would.
We'll be DVR'ing this every night.
Noteto NBC: NOT DVR'ing Leno. Never have, never will.

Fox couldn't guarantee O'Brien more than 65% of their market. The affiliates are making too much easy money from their late night syndication.

    Yep, we most likely will.

    Leno's a pill. 'nuff said.

FWIW, TBS has not "lost faith" in Lopez, his numbers are stronger than were expected at this point. Also, the deal wasn't offered until Lopez was on board with it, and word is that a personal call from Lopez to to O'Brien sealed it. A Conan/Lopez block from 11-1 could very well pull from the networks. While O'Brien would have undoubtedly found an audience on Fox at 11, some of them would wander off to the networks at 11:35. Lopez will give them something to stick around for.

A lot of people are whining about this, but I'm just happy to see my favorite television personality back on the air!

I'm seeing Conan's tour at USH on the 24th, then it's a long, long wait until November. At least we have a show and a date!

    I'm worried

Steward and Colbert work because they offer something vastly different from the network programs. Their Political spin as well makes it attractive as an alternative to the dry Sunday Morning shows.. so for the age demographic it's very unique.

If Conan tries to do 'Late Nite on TBS' I think he'll sink like a rock in the vacuum of space that is cable TV.

I heard one analyst on the radio today bet that he will pull in 2mil viewers easily. Stewart gets a bit over 1 million.
