WELCOME BACK COCO!!!!
Awesome first show! I laughed so hard during the "Last season on Conan" intro video.
The building he was outside of the first time he was gunned down is the building I work in on the Warner lot! Mustve filmed it during a weekend because i'm pretty sure we wouldve noticed Conan getting gunned down in front of our office! haha
I got tickets for the Dec 7th taping! Cant wait!!!
It looked like one of the buildings at Warner Bros. I worked on the NBC lot for many years, and have seen dozens of shows on the Warner lot. I still spend a lot of time working in that area. Hopefully I can get time in my schedule to try for standby tickets.
I will never think of Applebees the same way...haha
Look at my location ...
Tom Hanks is awesome, the fact that he's willing to get drenched for a laugh just shows what a cool guy he is. I'm not too crazy about celebs, etc ... but he just seems like a guy I'd love to sit down with and have a few beers.
I finally was able to tune in to the show last night (I work overnight and missed the first two shows), and it was more or less the same show I remembered from before, with a few differences here and there (no Max, of course, different set design, the beard), but it was nice to have him back on the air again at last. I was really impressed with that coastline backdrop painting, too; that thing's beautiful!
Barry, nobody could ever compare to Johnny, and it's silly to try to do so. Johnny was one of a kind, and there'll never be another like him. I grew up watching Johnny (as did Conan, who reveres the man), and I have very fond memories of The Tonight Show because of it.
But Conan, too, in a different way, is one of a kind, and while his style of humor doesn't resonate with everyone (and yeah, there may be a generational element involved), he's good at what he does and he has a very large and devoted fanbase. Dave and Jay have theirs as well, and while I like them both OK, I'm not quite as fond of them as I am of Conan. No, not every skit works; some fall flat. But every so often there'll be a skit or a situation on the show that is just comedy gold, maybe even a deeply profound bit of social or pop culture satire. When that happens, it's priceless.
of course not everyone will get Conan's humor. i know a few people who don't care for him (but thankfully most of the people i associate with love him ). Conan cuts loose more than Letterman and Leno. and his fan base is more youthful than leno's middle aged losers (oops, did that slip out?). but even my mom thinks Conan is funny, and she's in her 50s. for me, Conan is that most awkward and stupid spot of humor in me. many times it's just so ridiculous that you often question, "what the hell was that all about?" but it's so dumb that you have to laugh at it. I love that about Conan. a big budget doesn't matter with Conan because no matter how little money they give him, he can turn anything into a very enjoyable moment.
what i don't like about leno are his interviews. man, are they BORING!! Conan brings out humor in EVERYONE. even guests i've never heard of end up being hilarious. or people you wouldn't think are funny, they get many laughs. that's why i love it when Larry King is on. they take great shots at each other (anyone remember the Transformers bit they did? hahaha).
anyways, enough comparison, Conan rocks. he will always be #1 to me.
So glad to have him back. First episode was kinda "meh" mainly because of the guests I think. Second episode was fantastic, seriously loved it. If Tom Hanks had his own talk show I would totally tune in. This last episode was pretty good as well.
