Really? Absent the acrobats, this would have left Madonna and her crew looking like Tony Orlando and Dawn. Also, I love the fact that she expanded and defied the rules of convention by boldly daring to do a new tune....which was successfully executed before a delighted, mesmerized crowd, I might add.

She has two legs up on the competition.

Prince's show was indeed a full-on sensory attack. I loved it! Both Madonna and Prince's shows were highly innovative, explosive and full of heart.

Gregg, keep in mind she's a dancer-turned-singer, the acrobatics are what makes her Madonna and not Celine Dion.

At the times she was lip-synking, it was pretty much undetectable that she was doing so....apart from the polished quality of the sound.

I could go for Madonna, a football game and an ice cream all at the same time.

Sounds like a fun date till you bring up the ketchup.

I can just imagine the feedback if she was Breathless (Mahoney) while dancing and trying to belt out a 12 minute medley at the same time: "Girl can't sing! She sucks!"

Would you have given a higher rating if she would have sang, Keep Em Separated?

I'm ordering from your menu. Another Madonna-football-ice cream combo, please. Hold the Ketchup for tomorrow's Snoop Dog special.

Right on. There's no pleasing some people regardless of how much "anti-suck post spray" one uses.

That video shows her over the years...

Fans made this one as a comparison with Gaga:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lo2Rc...e_gdata_player

Lady Gaga has ripped her off so many times (but not as well.)

The song was written to Guy Ritchie (or Warren Beatty?)

I thought it was a pretty good show from what I saw. It was a spectacle, which is what I think people expect from the Super Bowl Half Time Show, but did not achieve this by just going for the shocking and controversial.

Madonna's fans put Gaga in her place with this comparrison video, provocotively and with style. Thanx again, CA, for bringing this song forward. You are exceptional at utilizing various media to both entertain, and to demonstrate a point.

It would be more like a duel-ette video. I agree with you that the vid is smoothly put together.

    Absolutely this.

Accomplishing a performing arts spectacle without resorting shock tactics or controvercy shows masterful talent, taste, values and skill.

I love how people are saying the MIA thing is indecent when you had people grinding on the ground right behind her wearing almost nothing.

For the record, I didn't find either one indecent.

Re: Madonna: Tight Performance At Equally Tight Super Bowl Game

I guess I'm going to have to be one of the few dissenters here. I found the entire performance reductive at best.

I'm a Madonna fan. I'm also a Gaga fan. (what can I say? I'm gay). I find it dishonest for Madonna fans to accuse Gaga of theft when Madonna is the queen in that respect. She has spent her entire career stealing... erm paying homage to the work of others. Hello, Material Girl = Marilyn Monroe/Diamonds are a Girl's Best Friend? And the Super Bowl entrance was a complete lift of Elizabeth Taylor's entrance into Rome in Cleopatra, to the point that Madonna was going to wear some of laLiz's personal jewelry! What's the Madonna/Liz connection? none.

I also take issue with the choreography. Yep, Madonna's a very fit 50+ woman. But the arms and legs akimbo choreography just made her look knock-kneed and awkward.

Speaking as a costumer and someone who works in theater, I thought the outfits were atrocious. Come to find out they were designed by a fashion designer, someone who makes individual looks into a "collection" rather than a costumer who looks at the stage picture as a whole. If she's Egyptian, why the Roman gladiator skirt? The DJ's looked ridiculous in their fuzzy sweaters, and the wire walker in white (with his fro) looked like Seth Rogan playing Cupid. But for me, the biggest mistake was the entire chorus of penguins surrounding CeeLo and Madge for Like A Prayer. All they needed was a voiceover from Morgan Freeman to re-enact March of the Penguins.

Was it entertaining? Yes. Was it her best work ever? Certainly not. Should she fire the costume designer? ABSOLUTELY.
