Well, technically, I don't consider the present in the show to be the present now. Thus, it is a present for us, but still a flashforward in relation to the losties....maybe.

I caught this too and told my wife, "Hey, that's a RAZR! Jack had a crappy phone too!" I thought for a second that we were probably seeing the future because of it, but then wrote it off as simply the producers not realizing the context of the "future phone" and therefore it being nothing more than a flub. It stuck with me though and when it came out fully that Jack was in the future, it just didn't register much surprise to me.
I kinda thought the same thing. His death was truly heroic and poignant, but at the same time was it necessary? Swimming up is a lot easier and faster than swimming down, so why didn't he just grab Desmond, hop in the pool and head out and up? Also, it looked to me like the window was certainly big enough that he could have waited until the inrush of water slowed and shimmied out through it. Of course, there's the obvious fact that with the porthole being the only outlet for air and inlet for water, an air pocket would have formed just above the level of the window (as the Looking Glass is a watertight "submersible" and assuming that the grenade didn't cause any other structural damage) and Charlie could simply have stuck his head up into it to get air. But, that would (I guess) be too much realism all at once for the Lost writers.![]()
I really appreciate reading everyone's thoughts and theories here on this thread. And good detective work on the newspaper Jack is looking at.
I was saddest about Charlie's death but I feel his death was redemptive. And so much for Desmond (aka Jesus) taking Charlie's place. That whole sequence really moved me.
Someone earlier mentioned that based on the location of the funeral they felt it had to be Locke. I disagree. No one else has mentioned this yet but I could not help but notice the area was populated with African Americans. The area looked to me like it is in South Central or someplace like that. The funeral home operator was a black man. So that would lead me to think Michael. But that doesn't explain why Jack would be so upset. I know Michael betrayed them, and that is the only thing I can think of. Maybe more will come out about this because didn't someone say Michael and Walt will be back? And speaking of Walt I also think it was Smoky. After all Smoky took on many forms; the horse, the dead priest brother, etc.
Locke definitely has a connection to this island the way it heals him.
I was so happy that the group on the beach were not killed.
And Hurley rocks
So, these are just my day after thoughts. I do plan on rewatching the episode with a different mindset knowing where it was heading.
In my opinion, Charlie had it ingrained in his mind that he was going to die by drowning and so he accepted it and went with it. Everything Desmond had told him was true; the underwater chamber, the flashing yellow light, the possibility of drowning. Maybe if he tried to escape, by his reasoning, he would change the course of events and the survivors, especially Clare and the baby, would not be rescued if he did not fulfill the "prophecy" in its entirety.
More points to ponder:
Future Kate: Why isn't she in jail. If this alternate universe contains a living Christian Shephard maybe it also contains a living Marshall....perhaps Kate is "living" under his protection and James Ford was in fact the person in the coffin???
Jack/maps: In Jacks flashforward apartment we see several maps of antartica/Australia; was he trying to "find" the Island via research or did he know where it was but couldn't summon the courage to do something that would get him there???

The maps in Jack's place are the biggest clue/enigma/thing that I noticed in the whole episode. I want to see freeze frames of them to see what is marked, penciled in, etc. If they were all rescued from the island, then there had to be media coverage and such, so the island should now be well known. The fact that Oceanic gave them golden tickets supports that they didn't leave in secret. But if that all happens, why would Jack need to search obsessively for it? Did it disappear again? I have a feeling that those maps are going to either be a significant element or lead to a significant element next season.
I'm just really frustrated, now! The thing I just keep thinking is, "I just want them to fix it!" I wonder how the next season is going to start? Will they still be on the island? I'm assuming some of it will take place there, but I'm kind of ticked off about what the rattlesnake was. It's like a nightmare.
On a side note: while the character of Jack really annoys me, Matthew Fox does a great job of playing him. Jack has gone through so many different emotions on this show, and the actor does a great job. I sort of think that maybe Jack will actually die by the end of the show, as they meant to kill him in the first episode.
I think the reason Kate wasn't in jail was because society oopsed. In that reality, the entire world thought flight 815 had sunk, with all of the bodies recovered or at least ID'd. Then they all come back. It's like, "explain that". Not that the legal system forgives miracle survival, but maybe Kate used the name of someone who actually did die in the crash? I hadn't really gotten that far in my theory.
But I agree that them getting rescued to early (because I believe at least some of them were meant to get off the island) would have ramifications for all of them. Jin probably would've been killed by someone who works for Mr. Paik. I don't know what would happen to Claire and Aaron...
... And here's something! Desmonde told Charlie he saw Claire and Aaron getting rescued by a helicopter, not a freighter. So, um, yeah!
I'm wondering if this show is also sort of a commentary on corporations, because all of these groups (Dharma) are run by corporations, or at least theorized to be. I liken some of it to WWII, and I think Penny Widmore would be classified as part of the resistance-- not neccessarilly on a side, but looking out for herself and hoping that the good guys will win.
So there are some thoughts for the moment.
Oo-de-lally!
Perhaps....... or maybe society just felt that crash was punishment enough. Perhaps she did something so heroic on the island (or given Jack's line, lied about doing something so heroic on the island) that Society forgave her. Maybe she isn't going by "Kate". Perhaps she took one of the other non-survivors names.
Well, the guy on the phone said that he'd be there in a second. Now assuming Lost isn't going to ignore the laws of physics.... a boat isn't coming on the island.Cue the helicopter.

Oh, yeah. I guess if the boat could come through in the first place, Naomi wouldn't have come in a helicopter.
Anywho, look at what I found! http://www.hansoair.org/index.html
And on another side note, I'm really glad they kept original Walt, instead of casting some new kid. It wouldn't have been the same to have a different little boy looking down at Locke. Locke would've said, "Walt?" And we would've all said, "Huh?"
Good night.

Forever is not long enough.
first off, I can't believe that no one has assumed who it I think it was in the coffin. And maybe that's because I have this little picture to look at, http://bp0.blogger.com/_RrObyQ3XzcY/...rclipping2.jpg
but give it a look see and tell me what you all think now.
I completely think that it's Jacob who is in that coffin.
I only hope we never lose sight of one thing... that it was all started by a mouse!![]()

and secondly, just wanted to add my two cents. This episode was the bomb diggity. I freakin' loved every aspect of it. The flashforward was brilliant. You've got to know that the man Kate was referring to ...'I have to get back before he starts wondering where I am' (or whatever she says exactly) is Sawyer.
I can't wait till February!!!!

Hanso Air isn't an official Lost website. It was registered by someone you can contact at [email protected]. A few easy signs to tell it's not an ABC website is that A) They have Google Ads and B) They don't have the copyright notice "© 200X Touchstone Television".
Could be Jacob, John Locke or James Ford. And on the off chance they are listing last names first, it could also be Sayid Jarrah. At least we now know it isn't Juliet (as it says it was a man).
Now of course, as they never did actually show us the newspaper article, they could have theoretically just taken any obit from the April 5th LA Times (although I can't seem to find any on the LATimes.com archive).
