The magazine says later this spring. And just to clarify (for others who don't get the magazine), the rooms are not being converted physically, DVC members will just be allowed to book traditional hotel rooms at the Grand Californian due to the popularity of the GCH.

I was so excited when I read that. I always stay at the Disneyland Hotel because the Grand Californian Hotel is not available.

Get ready for the shaft: The revised 2012 point charts are now out and the rooms in the main part of the Grand Californian are now available. But what they haven't told you until you study the point charts is that they start at 39 to 49 points per night for a studio in the least desirable room during the least desirable part of the year. That compares to 17 to 22 points per night at the Villas at the Grand Californian, which are actually nicer rooms!

A week at the Villas at the Grand Californian can cost as little as 129 points, while a week in the main building will set you back a whopping 293 points! You could get a one-bedroom villa in the DVC part of the hotel for only 235 points. Disney Vacation Club isn't doing anyone any favors by allowing you to waste your points by staying in the main building!

Saw this too when the calendar came out and my jaw dropped. Guess we'll keep trying the wait list when we travel there.

Michael, as it gets closer, call them every day to see if something has opened up. Good luck, it has worked for us!

Wait, your mom is going to sell DVC because they didn't e-mail you that the new rooms were available to book?

Re: The Grand Californian adding more DVC rooms?

I wonder if it is possible to convert some of the new rooms in the new wing to DVC villas. Since the resort is getting so popular, it is easiest way to make money by selling all those additonal DVC points!
