What is the method for reserving rooms?

One thing has been troubling me. Given that DVC members can book stays at any of the DVC resorts, why would anyone pay more for points at the higher cost resorts when you can buy points at lower cost resorts and use those points elsewhere (i.e., the higher cost resorts)? I suspect the answer must have something to do with the process of reserving rooms. In other words, it must be more difficult to reserve rooms at a resort that is different than the resort where you own points. Also, what if you own points from more than one resort; can you combine points from different locations and use them together? Sorry for this series of poorly worded questions, but I am hoping that someone can explain the booking process and answer my questions.

First DVC is runing of timeshare space. That why DVC buliding AKLV.

Only way you buy for DVC From Disney is the higher cost.
the low cost ones are full and only way you can buy the is from DVC Reseller and the all the points that person is selling.

The home DVC resort you own, you get book the room 11 month before you check-in

if not-home resort you own book 7 month before before check-in

Some people buy dvc points sole they can book the room year head time. and have the best room and location.
some buy points so they can take big groups and stay the same place.

This is some my thing to answer your questions.

The rule of thumb for purchasing is that if you normally schedule your vacations 7-11 months in advance of taking it and if you normally vacation during the peak seasons, you should buy at the resort that is your favorite. This way you can ensure a vacation during the busier time periods at your home (favorite) resort. If your family would be disappointed if you did not stay at a particular resort, then you should buy that resort. That is why there is a point price difference. People know in order to stay at BCV during school breaks and holidays, you need the home resort booking priority. If you normally schedule your trips in under 7 months of taking it, or you do not care which DVC you stay at (knowing that all DVC resorts are very nice), then you purchase the most affordable point. This is OKW for an "on Disney World property" resort and Vero Beach for an "off property" resort. If you own Vero Beach resort, you can make a reservation at Disney World when the 1-6 month window opens up. At that time, it makes absolutely no difference which resort you own because all points are equal. So, it really comes down to your families particular vacationing habits and expectations. Kinn

Thank you very much for the information. One last question. If you own points from more than one resort, can you mix them together when making a reservation? For example. If you have borrowed all of your points from 2009 in taking your reservation in 2008 at your favorite resort where you do own points. In 2009, you want to take another vacation at you favorite resort, but even if you borrow from 2010, you don't have enough points to cover the entire time period you want. Can you use your home resort benefit to reserve 11 months in advance, but actually use the points from another resort to pay for your vacation in 2009?

Unfortunately, no. You would have to book with the points you own using the 7-11 month window then when the under 7 month window hits, you book the rest of your trip. Of course, if you do not mind changing resorts during your stay, you could book both properties using the respective points at each resort. Disney will not let you combine home booking priority.
