The World Trade Center in "it's a small world"
I came across this interesting topic on Disney Central Plaza. The Twin Towers are still present in the United States section of Disneyland Paris' "it's a small world". Apparently, Euro Disney denies that they are the Twin Towers (but just two generic skyscrapers, I suppose). But anyone who's ever been on the ride will agree that the depicted buildings are unquestionably the Twin Towers.
Is this a tacky way to save a buck or a justifiable thing?
One American described their continued presence as "comforting". Personally, I think it's a little tacky, considering it's supposed to be the happiest cruise that ever sailed. It's not something that keeps me awake at night, but you'd think they could have managed a plywood Empire State Building by now.

Personally I am glad they are still there rather than a knee jerk to take them out.

I think that if they were there originally, there's no need to take them out. They don't go back and edit old movies and tv that have them in the background. We can't just pretend that they never existed in the first place.

Taking them out would jar with the rather naive message that the ride promotes.

Of all of the rides in Fantasyland, it is sad to say that iasw is probably now the most fantastical one of all.
Although the song is bound to drive people to madness, at least for a short while the riders can live in a world where everyone loves everyone else and is happy. To be honest the ride does move me but more the reason that it hammers home the point that the children enjoying this ride have got some tough lessons to come...
It is no coincidence that all of the characters depicted in the ride are children and animals - neither have axes to grind (yet)

Oh who cares about a vague representation of the Twin Towers? Wanna be terrorized? Ride the MK's version of IASW!!!!

Again... ride Peter pan, or Snow white at the MK and then tell me the DLP versions are bad.

Did I say they were bad? No I was simply alluding to the fact that as far as fantasy is concerned, a world where.... oh never mind.

To be honest I'm a little surprised at the reactions. I had expected a degree of outrage. Not they're-taking-out-the-rain-forest outrage, but some. Which is good, I suppose, nice and down-to-earth. Good points as well; we can indeed not Wite-Out their every occurrence and pretend they were never there, like some bad Steven Spielberg DVD re-release.
I just thought of the most awful, tasteless joke. I was thinking that if they should ever decide to remove them, they should fly two tiny planes into them. Thankfully I know better than to say something like that.

Actually, I heard they have edited it out of some TV shows.

And of course there was the Spider-man teaser trailer where crooks in a copter were caught in a web spun between the towers. This has disappeared completely.

To be honest, I strongly questioned the frenzy that caught every hollywood major in editing the Twin Towers out of movies and tv-shows se in NYC. I mean, it was reasonable months after the attack, now it's not, it's even dangerous imo.
In order to avoid bad thing to happen again it is fundamental to remember what happened, not to remove them. Everytime I watch an episode of Friends or of Sex & The City (they both feature long shots of NYC with the Twin Towers) it always reminds me of what happened, what NYC (and the world) was before 9/11 and urge to judge the world today. The same happens when I ride It's a Small World: just a hint of a thought, in an attraction about the joy of learning to live all together.
