I think that the most important thing to show at this point is passion. If they see that its something you really want to do, they will be more inclined to take you seriously.
Because they hold open audition days, I suspect that by emailing them they will simply put you on a mailing list to inform you of when these auditions will be. I wouldn't worry too much about it.

By all means, do it in pink!

They're always looking for enthusiastic, outgoing people. As opposed to sarcastic wallflowers, I suppose. Start off by accentuating those qualities, although I would advise you to flip through a thesaurus for a different way of expressing those things... Nothing kills a cover letter like clichéd buzzwords. You can easily Google a few sample cover letters to get an idea of the standard setup. And if you're still not sure, you could always post it here and ask for feedback.

Nathan may be right, perhaps they don't even pay attention to these applications, but you'll feel more confident if you've sent out a good one — and if during the audition they should ask you to explain why you'd like to work for the Mouse, you'll be grateful you worked out an angle in advance, and save yourself from any Miss Teen South Carolina throwbacks.

I actually 'auditioned' to be a cast member at a local Disney Store years ago. It was all on personality and out-going behaviour. It's certainly the only job interview that I have ever attended where part of the questioning involved my favourite Disney movie! (I got through to round two BTW)
