I believe TDL did a little ceremony to mark the ocasion and handed out a free souvenir pin to guests... just waiting on Ichigopara to report on that. Went to the MK today and zip, nothing, nada, rien! Bought me the 80th anniversary pin and the CM selling it to me didn't even know it was Mickey's birthday until I mentioned why I was buying the pin. Sad, very sad.
I recall with clarity the great hoo-haa that accompanied Mickey's 60th. His face was slapped on everything.
Is Disney too busy churning out HSM and Hanna Montana to almost completely ignore their company mascot? Surely Mickey remains the most iconic cartoon character in the world?
With John Lassater talking of Mickey and co making a return to the big screen for a few years now, I would have thought that Disney could have had the foresight to get a short or something ready for this occasion (to precede Bolt perhaps?)
Even the MK made a big deal of that when they built "Mickey's BirthdayLand" (now aka ToonTown Fair) but seems to me they are no longer interested in these types of celebrations in the US parks, except for really exploitable ones like DL's 50th.
Olivier, I am glad the press in France mentioned this because here in Orlando? I did not see anything mentioned in the local newscasts. A pity.
