I really hope it's WRE, but for some strange reason I feel like its gonna be a clone of WDWs Splash Mountain.

Well, sure, it sounds like a drag (from your perspective high up there, haha), but there is something to be said for certain clones. Hong Kong Disneyland lacks a landslide of Disney staples and it is worse for it indeed. There's also the fact that each reincarnation of a ride leaves room for improvement and experimentation look at how Disneyland Paris is a rethought, rearranged Disneyland or what Tokyo did with the Tower of Terror. Splash Mountain itself has been built three times so far and got better with every try.

More pessimistically (and this is the reason I'm jumping on the clone bandwagon), Disney has not exactly proven lately that they're still capable of really wowing us in the big-attraction department. Midway Mania, the Nemo Submarines, the Californian and Parisian Towers of Terror; all nice, none spectacular. This off-the-shelf raft ride turned into a Jungle Book adventure; would they really be able to take this to Splash Mountain heights? Is the small thrill of novelty (for us, that is) worth it when they already have this wonderful ride?

And if anyone mentions Tokyo in response to this, I will hunt them down.

I'm all for Western Land getting a new attraction, if not for mere attraction count booster, then mostly because i find it to be sort of empty looking in some places. I get a strange feeling of uneasiness, especially around the Phantom Manor area, as if i expect to see a truck driving by behind the trees or something... For some reason it doesn't have that immersive quality to it that i'm generally used to when it comes to Disney parks.

They could build a flume ride that is entirely indoors, but the big drop is surrounded by glass 'tunnel' that allows people on the outside to see folks dropping down and the riders could see a view through the glass.

The problem would still lie in the fact that flume rides are essentially a big way to get the riders wet. Stepping outside with wet clothes in DLP anytime between late September and early April would be no fun at all!

Well, you get wet on Pirates... And the "'small world" boats go outside. Heck, half the rides in the park involve being outside. Surely that's survivable.

If they could find a way to soften the splash (heck, they could fake it like they do on Big Thunder), and maybe cover up a few more outside sections of the ride, it's at least as viable as Tokyo's version of the ride.

And I really doubt Splash Mountain would work very well if the entire thing was indoors. Facade-wise it would be like the Magic Kingdom's butchered "it's a small world" but ten times worse.

I actually think a Splash Mountain might work in the winter months. I went to the resort in Novemeber with 14 other people, and nearly all of them said they were disappointed that there was no proper "splash" ride. This was in November - and it was freezing cold!

If Splash Mountain was built, maybe they could just put a sign up in the winter that says the water effects have been turned off?

How about a water borne version of this new ride being cooked up for HKDL?

    Disney and more
