Track-less Ratatouille Dark Ride and New Toon Studio Rides Underway?

    Disneyland Paris

Regarding apparently plans for Soarin' and PhilHarmagic are rumored to have been placed on the back burner at Walt Disney Studios Paris. Instead, Toy Story Playland is said be added to Toon Studio. The expansion would be on the order of It's A Bug's Land at DCA, open sometime between 2010 and 2012. So far, three rides for the area have been leaked. See below -
    • RC Racer - a half-pipe coaster
    • Green Army Men - drop tower featuring parachutes
    • Slinky Dog - flat ride music express type
A Ratatouille track-less dark ride will open in 2012. It's technology will be in line with that of Tokyo disneyland's Pooh ride.

The info on TSL is pretty much the same as what we discussed over the past few weeks. It is interesting to see the Ratatouille rumour resurface. I know the movie was pretty popular (especially in Europe) and I personally loved it, but will it stand the test of time to be turned into a ride five years after its release?

My guess is, no. There's just nothing about the characters or the plot that stands out to kids or adults. However, it is a fun flick and the tale does take place in France. The ride tech will be state of the art ..for now. oui oui

At least (according to the rumor) it would involve a beloved Disney-engineered ride system. It could work. Still not too excited about the land itself, personally, but this sounds fun.

These attractions will be great for the park. Not the small ones, of course, but the trackless system ride. WDSP is still far less than even DCA and DHS in Florida. Better than it was- with maybe a bright future- but still lacking.

This 'trackless' design is amazing to me. Would be glad to see something using this new tech here at Disneyland (CA)..
    Everybody's got a laughin' place-
trouble is most folks won't take the time to go look for it.

It's quite surprising that the Disneyland Resort doesn't already have an attraction with this ride system yet. Consider it inevitable that we will. The sooner the better.

It seems a little dizzying, though. Where would you put it on a scale from The Hall of Presidents to Mission: Space?

I would rank a quality dark ride that utilizes exciting new technologies as a super major attraction ..much like the Little Mermaid ride coming to DCA. As you had previously expressed pussnboots, the track-less element is a beloved ride system. The theme is the only drawback as it is based on a film that arguably is not destined to become a beloved classic. That being uttered, it works in France because of the fact the film represents French culture ..and european culture as well ..although to a lesser extent.

Regardless of what thematic purists say, the ride would work in DL's New Orlean's Square as well. Face it, nothing will ever please these purists other than to turn the park into a stagnant museum They wouldn't even agree with eachother over which attractions to freeze in time. They are the primary reason that MiceChat is not taken as seriously as it should be by the theme park / entertainment industry. Rant over.. Another ride (such as Ratatouille) in addition to Pirates would so rock. However, a track-less ride themed to some other idea would be far more exciting.

I believe Twilight Zone Tower Of Terror is pulled by magnets under the ground to move forward. Does that count as a trackless ride?

Good point ..but I would say no. The traveling compartments each still travel up and down along verticle tracks. ToT would be closer related to a Japanese electro-magnetic bullet train than a remote controlled magnetic track-less ride.

So far, I havent heard or can think of a great story that would make the trackless system the right tool to use to tell the story.

Think food! I can see us riding in salad or soup bowls thru town and thru a restaurant's kitchen and dining areas. Wouldn't be surprised if the aroma of French food was a part of the ride.

Not to mention the unique aroma of the Paris sewer system!
