The original version of it, de la terre a la lune, disapeared in 2005 to be replaced by SM: Mission 2, way worse in my opinion

    :/ that is so sad.
Don't be destroying the most beautiful Magic Kingdom ever.
It's like putting Buzz Lightyear in Port Discovery, it doesn't really look right.

Re: Shoot for the Moon: Space Mountain, Paris

Space Mountain de la Terre a la Lune was the best Space Mountain in the world . Very Smooth and nice Audio System that properly worked .

Rght now Space Mountain Mission 2 is not as good as they pretend to be . The ride system is still the same as it is a Roller Coaster . But compare to the other Space Mountain this one has been buid by Vekoma ( a Roller Coaster Manufacturer ).

After 16 years of operations Space Mountain at Disneyland Paris has become the roughest roller coaster at Disneyland Paris . The ride maintenance tries to keep it as smooth as possible but one of theses days they would have to close it down and refurb it . Not a Cheap refurb as SM M2 was and lasted 3 months . NO SM M2 will need a track replacement .

And im not talking about the audio system malfunction because of the vibration of the roller coaster . I think all Disney Parks is having issues with their Audio On board the roller coaster . Last time i went to Disneyland California at DCA i rode Screamin 4 times and non of trains that went on had audio .

Re: Shoot for the Moon: Space Mountain, Paris

With the replacing of Le Visionarium the downturn of DLRP started. Buzz Lightyear is a nice ride, but shouldn't be in Discoveryland. It would have fitted a lot better and I still don't get it why they didn't put it there. WDS hadn't had enough rides and it would have been a perfect possibility to increase the attractions there. Maybe it was too expensive to build a new building.

Then they replaced the best DLP coaster with that stupid Mission 2. The soundtrack of the first version was just amazing.

How are the specific ways in which they differ?
The only one I experienced was the latest version...last month.

It was indeed rough. But felt pretty intense.

Maybe the intensity came from the roughness of it though.

The inversions were something that I wasn't expecting having only been on the Anaheim Space.

The most important difference is well, Mission 2 has no story...it is just another coaster.
'De la Terre à la Lune ' put you in a movie-like adventure. The music by Steve Bramson - http://www.stevebramson.com - made you feel like you were a hero who was being shot to the moon in a blaze of glory. Smoke came out of the canon and the sound of the mighty Columbiad could be heard all over Discoveryland. The ride was pretty much the same only smoother and with a working soundsystem, but there was much, much more to see.
At the point where you nowadays see the super-nova, used to be a Mèlies-kind of moon that smiled before you slowly went spiraling down and where drawn to earth at high speed by the 'Electro de Velocitor' . Another great feature was the 'Stellar Way', where guest who didn't dare to ride SpaceMountain could view the interior of it. Some softer headsupports would make this ride much more bearable... The original decor still holds a nice imagineering joke I discovered (you can find it on hiddenDLRP.com and disneygraphy.com) and the building has one of the best hidden Mickeys ever...

What is even sadder is that Disney no longer considers its parks to be something so unique and special as to have television specials such as this.
