    Tower of Terror budget

On www.towerofterror.org, it lists the budgets of the four towers.
    • Disney's California Adventure $70-90 million
    • Disney-MGM Studios $140 million
    • Tokyo DisneySea $160 million
    And then the big shock.
    • Walt Disney Studios $180 million
    What the flip!
Is there some sort of error here? I mean, I understand DCA's cheap budget n all... but what makes Paris' nearly double? I thought California and Paris were identicle! You cannot justify $180 million, especially when Tokyo's extravaganza of a ride is $20 million cheaper.

    Re: Tower of Terror budget

I think the excess cost is part higher employee wages (remeber that was a problem when Disneyland Park was being built) and partly due to the fact the Euro trades higher than USD. It also seems the tower is reinforced concrete rather than steel, which while is cheaper in materials, takes longer to build. Most skyscrapers in Australia are built in concrete because it is more readily avaliable, but I dont know about Paris.

Is it the concrete? Maybe concrete is more expensive then steel.

this better be a heck of a good ToT if it's gonna be the most expensive, from the looks of it though so far, it looks ugly comapred to MGM's and TDS'.

Maybe the accountants wrote off the cost of the land as part of it?

Or the price is inflated by the Euro?

That's because it's a stack of concrete right now.

I know one thing for sure, the tower had to be constructed in concrete because of French building codes. I remember seeing pictures of the construction of Disney Studios and the sound stages(1,2, and 3) were all made out of concrete, except for the arched roofing.

wouldn't it be such a shock if the WDSP ToT ends up being better than TDS'?

I'd burst into happy tears! The finest ToT in the world on my doorstep! (Well across the Channel... and a few hundred miles into France... ah, it's still closer than Japan!)

    Re: Tower of Terror budget

Actually, theoretically, the rides SHOULD be cheaper than the original because WDI is working with something that they have now used twice. As a result, money doesn't have to be wasted on mishaps of ideas that happen when the thing starts getting built.

As for the cost of the Paris version vs. the cost of the Tokyo version, I think something else is at play besides one ride being better than the other, but I'm not going to pretend that I know enough to know what that is.

    Re: Tower of Terror budget

Well Disney is spending $40 million more on this version than the original. I think the Euro v.s. Dollar and concrete arguments are feasible, but taking into account experimenting etc, Disney only really spent about $120 million on the actual ride at Disney-MGM Studios - probably about $20 million on research. The extra money spent on MGM which wasn't spent at DCA would account for the detail and 5th dimension room at MGM - and isn't MGM's taller? I don't know, I have only gone on MGMs.

I know that MGM's is 199 ft. Is the DLP version taller?

    Re: Tower of Terror budget

Well I wouldn't be surprised if the extra-cost is because of defavorable /$ exchange rate, higher labour costs, more contraigning building regulations and red tape.

Maybe this extra 40% is what it cost to build the same ride as DCA in Paris.

But I'm a very positive person. Maybe it's because WDI is cooking up the best TOT yet
