DLRP going wrong direction?

I visited Copenhagen's Tivoli last weekend and so should DLRP's management do (Walt did btw). There was clearly one thing that DLRP should learn of: how to get adults and elderly people to park. Tivoli was open until midnight and people came with their friends, well dressed and had a good time enjoying dinner, live music and shows. There were not much kids at the park in the evening. Tivoli has a lot of restaurants and they were packed.

What does DLRP do? Rumored multimillion expansion plans has mostly kiddie stuff. If DLRP wants growth they should start to widen their target group. Families with kids -market is biased. Most of the year DLP closes around 7 or 8pm, even weekends. Restaurants close even earlier.. That'd be exellent spot for growth to get adults inside the park. Especially fridays when DLP closes at 7pm off season.. which is totally unacceptable and stupid time. What do they think DLP is, a monastery? Ah yes, kindergarten.. those close early.

Stayed at Marriott in Copenhagen and that is another place DLRP management should visit; how to keep rooms clean and fresh. Spider webs and musty air don't belong to top notch hotels (we had spider webs at HNY and musty air at NPBC).

So what should DLRP do:
1. Extend their opening hours
2. Have more entertainment for grown-ups and elderly people after 6pm - no rubber heads, but music, magicians, dancing girls at Saloon..
3. Keep á la carte & buffet restaurants open late
4. Make hotels more pleasant experience

..and no multimillion €€€€'s needed for this.

I'll post some Tivoli photos after I've uploaded them somewhere.

Re: DLRP going wrong direction?

I agree with al of your points but can't hep but feel that as long as the high attendances continue, DLP will not bother to chase the 'adult' market. Their attitude seems to be that the kids drag the adults along anyway.

Re: DLRP going wrong direction?

This is all true, but I just can't see it. Appealing to the adult market I think would be difficult in this situation, it's different to doing the same thing in WDW or even DL I think. Lengthier opening hours could be marketed, and the hotels do very much need a-fixin', but I can't imagine any adult wanting to go for a sophisticated peaceful dinner at Disneyland Park. I dunno, I just can't see it, and I don't think it would be sensible to try and put an emphasis on the adult market because, essentially, Disneyland is for kids and the young at heart. WDW has Epcot for that, but at current, DLRP doesn't really have anything unless they build something Epcot-y or demolish then re-build Disney Village.

Oh no, they've got you too, Fizz. DLP's 15 years of advertising hasn't gone to waste.

Actually I wasn't planning a red light district to DLP.. ;-) Just a bit more mature entertainment, jazz music etc. After 6pm DLP has practically none streetmosphere.

One key to TDL's success has been grown-up markets. Prehaps Japanese are more young at heart. Speaking of that we are getting new CEO from TDL.. hmm, my vision could have a future.

Re: DLRP going wrong direction?

One big difference between Tivoli and DLP; Tivoli is literally in the heart of Copenhagen. Another big difference is the fact that in Tivilo entrance to the park and fee for the rides are stille separated. You'll pay about 10 euro to get in to the park and about 2 euro per ride. So people will more naturally go the park, eat and drink some and maybe go in a ride or two.
The idea behind Disney Village is (imo) more are less the same; offer Disney-visitors and non-Disney visitors a place tot eat and drink in a Disney athmosphere.

That said; I do agree with your suggestions to stay open later (especially on weekends outside the hig-season), try to cater more for adults and especially refurbish the hotels!

Re: DLRP going wrong direction?

Disneyland Paris is not like Tivoli or Disneyland California . Both of them can be full after an non busy day on friday night because of Locals .

Disneyland Paris dont have that much locals and it could be possible if Disney would be like in the heart of Paris or closer suburb .

Even being 15miles away they are restricted for Fireworks i can't imagine closer to Paris would be No Fireworks at all .

DLP has had many years cheap summers season evening tickets.. why not offer friday night tickets as well?

My point here has been that DLP has huge assets there unused!! That is just bad business thinking.

Re: DLRP going wrong direction?

Didn't the original Disneyand have a weekly 'date night' in the early years as a way to attract teenagers and young adults? Surely this has potential now at DLP? (Bobby socks optional)

Re: DLRP going wrong direction?

But the whole, I can't the find the right word here, 'feel' of DL and even WDW is different, it's a different world with different locals, it's just, so different. I'm talking nonsense here lol

Re: DLRP going wrong direction?

That cuts deep Nathan, and you're not good, or reliable, just old. Old!!! And who says someone under 22 cannot be articulate? Hmm? Ah, the mystery continues...or does it? Discuss...

But anyway, do people know what I mean? DLRP and DLR and WDW have different, well, feels.

Really. Interesting. Disneyland is also surrounded by residential areas, and we all know what kind of fireworks they put on every night. Which is why I have trouble processing the fact that the three farms near Disneyland Paris made such a fuss over the split second of whistling noises at the end of Enchanted... I suppose the locals still harbor a little of that early '90s grudge.

I don't hate the French, I promise, haha. I just really like fireworks.

This is where we find out that you're fourteen years old, isn't it. Can't say it comes as a surprise!

Re: DLRP going wrong direction?

Heaven help me if you all think I'm 14. I guess Disneyland is an instituion in California, everyone at least knows it and many love it, its reputation and standing in its location is nearly the opposite of Paris, where it was seen as an invasion and got horrid press. I never really understood why the fireworks were a problem, well, I knew the reasons but I didn't understand if you're with me. Maybe it affects livestock. I dunno, I wouldn't say it's a massive deal for DLP to have fireworks as spectacular and loud as other resorts', it would just be nice. And, to avoid some weird internet situation here, I'm not 14.

Re: DLRP going wrong direction?

I think Tivoli Gardens is wonderful and feels the most Disney like place that is not Disney. I love it.

DLP used to be more like Tivoli in 1992, but the costs were cut and we lost a lot of it's soul. The entertainment this summer is a step back in the right direction, but gosh, I wish we had more of it.

Sadly the toon lovers are really killing Disney.
